Canon pixma 610 and xd cards

Bought a new printer,Canon pixma MP610 specifically as it said it was XD card compatible. After unpacking have discovered an XD card adapter is required but don't where to get one. Is it the same as an SD adapter? Can anyone help. Am really disappointed with this although the printer/scanner seems really good.
Thank you in anticipation

No, SD cards and XD cards are not the same size or layout.

    You need something like this:

You can probably buy cheaper from Ebay, but that will probably be shipped from the Far East and take ~ages~ to arrive!

Incidentally, card readers often don't advertise the fact that they can read XD cards.

My all-in-one card reader mentioned nothing about them in the instructions and there is no XD marking on the front panel. However, on very careful inspection, it became apparent that there was an extra set of contacts on the "roof" of the slot marked "SM". Put an XD card upside down in that slot and it reads it fine.

So it may be worth a closer look at the card reader slot(s) in your printer.

Thank you both for your help. I'm a bit of a technophobe but am trying to learn how to do things myself instead of always running for my son-in-law.
