Do this for emergency work
Open Wordpad its in Start/All Programs/Accessories
A basic Word system but without all the bells and whistles, also in there is Notepad
WordPad didn't work. I typed a few lines in it, saved it, and then went to open it and it had saved as a Word document....which as we all know...doesn't work.
So I have downloaded OpenOffice. I have emailed the CV as an attachment, but it is not in Word format now so I don't know whether the company will be able to open it or not, just have to see.
Not sure what to do about Word, if I can't find the Office cd....:(A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
Hi
When you're using the Open Office word processor, when you've finished, use "Save as..."
And save it as something.doc
And in the 'File type' box select 'Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)'.
Then it should be right for someone else to open with Word.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -

Hi. Just saved the CV in OpenOffice under Save As. There were 2 boxes, File name and Save As Type. The word Attachment was in the Save As Type drop down box. And in the File name box, I made sure I had put:
Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP.doc
But it said, file name invalid. Was I supposed to put that whole title in there?A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
Hi
It's confusing.
But I think that in the 'File name' box you should type the name again, such as attachment.doc or whatever.
Then in the 'File type' window scroll through all the options till you find the option 'Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)'
:cool:Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -

I do get confused easily.:D I can see File Name and Save As Type. It will not allow me to type over the word Attachment in that box. I cannot see File Type window. I am in the Save Attachment As box.

I dunno.
When I save a file I click in the top left hand corner 'File'.
Then 'Save as'.
I don't use a 'Save attachment as' box.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -

I was trying to save my CV which was an attachment in an email, which is why the Save Attachment As box came up. I just went into OpenOffice and typed a couple of lines, then clicked on Save As, and both those boxes you said came up. I put Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP thingy in the file name and typed Attachments.doc in the other bit. It said it might not format in Word, so I went to see it had saved but it hasn't saved in Word format, its still the icon for OpenOffice.

Use save as but save it in the My documents folder on your PC and save it as Rich Text Format or Open Office Format, you can save it as lots of different formats, the Open Office Icon is showing because the file is now associated with Open Office.0

Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 can effectively reinstall without needing the CD. Normally, when they’re first installed from the CD, they make what’s called a “local installation source”. Basically, that’s a spare copy of all the important stuff on the CD. You can see more details at Frequently asked questions about the Local Install Source feature in Office 2003, although it’s a bit techie. Not sure what to do about Word, if I can't find the Office cd....:(
Provided the local installation source is there, you can run the the Microsoft Office Reinstall and Repair procedure without needing a CD. To do this, you need to do the following. This assumes a normal set up of Windows XP.Start → Control Panel → Add or Remove Programs → Select Microsoft Office in the list of programs → Change → Reinstall or Repair → Next > → Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation → Install
If that doesn’t work, you can try for a full reinstall. For that you choose Reinstall Office instead of Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation. (For either process, you will need to be logged in using an administrator account. If your account allows you to add extra programs, or you don’t know what I mean, you’re using an administrator account.)古池や蛙飛込む水の音0
