    Albufeira and Vilamoura are lovely.

Can't recommend a hotel as we stay in a friend's villa, but there are plenty of reasonably priced hotels in the area x
    Gone ... or have I?
  • as i don't know algarve at all ... how far are these from airport ?

As i tend to like being a few minutes taxi from airport !! .. ( like Nice , Palma , Barcelona ) .. wher should i look at in algarve ??

and is their an "old town" like those places or is it all about "sandy beach resorts" ??

Algarve is a great area this ime of year. Not scorching by any means but pleasant.

All the beaches are nice, especially Albuferia (although the town is very touristy). The Strip there is good for a giggle and fairly quiet this time of year.

Avoid the layabout timeshare sellers though - they are everywhere -
oooh how suprising you have won a prize on our scratch card - we never expected that!!
    (YEAH RIGHT!)

Silves is very interesting and so is Sagres (the end of the world)

I wish I was going! Enjoy

AH - want to be near to the airport eh...there's not much within a few miles - as dmg24 says Villamoura is nice - but expensive
comping since august 2007, wins so far.....none! :rotfl:
  • emmahip .. very helpful thanks

just looked at a couple of hotels in albufeira .. which looks /sounds good place to be ?? .. town and beach etc ..

weather forecast next week is 18 and sunny ... flight for about £60 return and hotels for £30/£40 a night top spec ...

all sounds a bit to good to be true ?? !!
  • it really depends on what you like doing and the kind of crowd you enjoy, possibly also a bit on your age. places like albufeira are quite family orientated, vilamoura to me screams rich old farts (sorry if this offends anybody, just my opinion :A ). a lot of younger people would prefer to head to tavira east of faro or more likely to lagos, near the west coast, a smaller town with a backpacker feel to it.
there is plenty of posh golf resorts if that's the kind of thing you're after...
    what do you wanna do?

Carvoeiro is a good place to stay - very central to the Algarve but slightly further in (about 40 mins from airport)
