Hi Loopy girl! :hello:
I'm sure Max will be fine! He sounds nice and dry and snuggled up in there, and as other posters have said, (wild and domestic) rabbits are used to living outside.
We brought Vanessa in last year - initially because our neighbours forgot we had a rabbit, and started letting off fireworks right beside her hutch - but then I felt she'd got used to the warmth (just in that one night) and it wasnt right or fair to put her back outside. My other concern was that her hutch wasnt completely dry, and I only had carpet over the front. The carpet never dried, so the hutch never felt dry...
DH is not best pleased about it, although I love having her indoors - she has free run of the kitchen, but tends to stay in one area.Threadhead0 -
Hey Threadhead:j
It's all choice really isn't it? As I say, I would need to bunnyproof the house, teach him to go to the loo in a tray and also, going by the way the dog chases the squirrels I wouldn't fancy his chances much!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: and to be honest as I say, I think bunnies should be outside - but that's just me!!!!
My mind has really been set at ease with the great comments on here:D
Hope Vanessa (still love that name for a bun!!) is doing well0 -
Of course it's your choice, I didn't mean loose I meant in a cage....Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

I think we are going to have to agree to disagree here BS as I think that is just plain cruel. Bunnies, be outside or inside, should be able to be free for a large majority of the day and the thought of a bunny being cooped up, in a house and in a cage all day would break my heart.
As Threadhead has said, she has a house bunny but he gets to roam in the kitchen. Not my choice bit IF I had a house bunny then that is probably what I would do. Bunny proof the whole house and let him run free. Bit like a cat. But they are not cats and therin lies my issue with house bunnies.
However, aside from all that, I have been given great reassurance from people and I honestly feel tons better - I really do!!!:D0 -
I had a little Netherland Dwarf called Remy and he lived to a ripe old age of 5 considering he was the runt of the litter, from a rather nasty 'pet shop' and he was in the weight range of an underweight guinea pig
But all my bunnies hutches are covered in carpet underlay to keep the warmth in. They have shredded paper from one of my bosses offices to have in their beds as well as hap, it all keeps the warm in.
And little Remy loved a hot water bottle. He actually used to fake shivering so I would re fill his hot water bottle for him. At one point i was re doing it 10 times a day because of his so called 'shivering' attakc.s Only when he thought I wasnt ;looking would be settle snugly perched on his bottle :P

Fake shivering!!!! wee monkey!!!! Max is like that - when I put the food bowl in he dives on it like he has not seen food for weeks!!! Keeps eyeing up the outside when I am standing in the pen giving him a cuddle. Have told him he is more than welcome to make a break for it ala Watership Down but he'll not get 2 meals a day, fresh water and all the luxuries he has now!!!!:D :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
p.s - Blackpool Saver...re your sig about CSA - am feeling your pain sister!!!!;)  :beer:0

Hi Loopy, yes the CSA, merry Christmas to them eh:rolleyes:
Just to reassure you my GP gets to run around a lot, no dogs here so she is safe.
I suppose it's what they are used to, mine has never lived outside so couldn't do it now as would be too much of a shock to the system.

He will be fine, please don't bring him in at night and out during the day, that will make him ill!
From what you have said you are pretty clued up on bunnies which is good, so many people that have a rabbit aren't! Only thing I would do differently is the woodshavings, mine have newspaper on the floor, cat litter in their litter trays (buns are pretty easy to toilet train and makes it loads easier to clean out!) and tons of hay in their bedroom, but that is your choice
Here are pics of my monsters, who all live outside quite happily with their thick fur coats and cover over the hutch, it is draughts you need to worry about more than cold, but as long as he has cover and warm bed he'll be fine! (With snuggle safes some bunnies won't use them, my awkward lot will just push them out the way and I've never seen them use one. )

My bunnies stay outside all the year. Few years ago , one gave birth in January ... outside hutch! all were fine. They might use their hutch to keep dry and out of the wind, but the cold NEVER bothers them. Wonder if that's why they have fur coats :rotfl:0
