You rescue them? Ooh I'd love to visit you, I'd take all the abandoned rabbits and guinea pigs you have :D

I have sheds and cages and runs and everything, I even feed mine home-grown veg :D

I think Guinea is very serious about this, and will double-check homes to make sure they're safe :)

You will quite often find rabbits advertised free on free ads because of various reasons such as the children have got bored of them and they are not getting the attention they deserve. Proof, here it is http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?t=70739

Ask yourself what exactly happens to these free rabbits, because sadly most people go to a pet shop to buy a small, cute, cuddly baby bunny. So here are some examples (i'm not saying it always happens, but it could):
    Breeding
    Live snake food
    Hare coursing
    Grey hound racing
Cooking (yes some people like to eat rabbit)
    Dog meat
Live bate/training for birds of prey.

Thanks for this. Yes, I have looked on it and the ones I really want aren't on any local ones to me. I'm actually looking for the Snuggs ones but they are SO expensive. I managed to get one for £26 on e-bay and another one has come up but the starting bid is £50. A bit more than the last one!

Why do people assume the worst when they don't actually know all the facts?

Why do you assume the best? I have a rabbit that was used for breeding, when her owners weren't making enough money they chucked her out, God knows what happened to the rest of them but I caught her and took her in - she is one of the lucky ones.

I don't think people realise the work involved in caring for one rabbit, let alone breeding them and caring for many. They live for 8 yrs+ if looked after properly. Also the mortality rate in newborns is quite high when bred by inexperienced people. You also state that you "want to improve the breeds that I choose and not sell mixed breed rabbits" - well I hope you're prepared for the defects because mixed breeds are healthier due to the fact that pure bred rabbits are rarer and therefore widely inbred, they require extensive dental work usually, hope you've accounted for this when working out costs.

I'd like to suggest that you extensively research this before going any further.
