Hi
I thought if any one would have the answer this board would have it!
I used to make rice krispie nests when i was a kid with coco powder (or drinking chocolate) golden syrup and butter but i've lost the receipe
The only ones i can find now are just "melt chocolate, pour them on cereal" which are nice but don't taste right!
Anyone have a receipe for the old skool ones?0 -
Those just melt chocolate recipies are just WRONG!!! Right up there with the melt some marshmallows for Rice Krispie Cakes....WRONG WRONG WRONG...gotta have golden syrup in it!
Here's mine....Hardcore!!!!;)
100g dark choc
2 Tbspns golden syrup
2oz butter
3oz cornflakes/rice krispies whatever!
I add 2oz raisins cos I love chocolate covered raisins...
Melt the chocolate, syrup and butter in a bowl over boiling water - make sure bowl doesn't touch the water....Add the crunchy stuff and spoon into paper cases....eat till you are sick...:D
Here's one for the cocoa powder version....
25g butter
2 tbsp golden syrup
25g cocoa (or drinking chocolate if you want it much sweeter)
7 tablespoons rice crispies or cornflakes - or whatever the mixture will take.
Melt butter and syrup slowly in a suacepan. When just bubbling, take off heat and add cocoa and whisk well with a metal whisk so there is no lumps. Add cereal, and stir well until it is all coated then put into 9 or 10 paper cases.
I think if I remember right you can leave the cocoa out and just have plain crispie cakes......although why would you!!?Well behaved women rarely make history.0 -

Whenever I make these they stay sort of gloopy and sticky - I always remember when I was a kid that they'd go quite hard and stay together, what am I doing wrong?xxx Nikki xxx0

Too much syrup; not enough butter and chocolate

Both my boys had to make these as part of their food tech classes (which I insist on calling 'cookery lessons') last week.
Their recipe was 225g chocolate, 2 tbsp golden syrup, 50g butter and100g cornflakes (obviously rice krispies will work as well)
This meant I had to fork out for 450g (1lb) of chocolate, and me being me I wasn't going to give them any cheap rubbishy chocolate so it was quite an expensive lesson.
The results were very good though- chocolatey and they held together well.0 -

Whatever you call them Food Tech and Cookery classes aren't the same thingI forbade both of mine from studying Food Tech to GCSE as it mainly consists of designing packaging and deconstructing muesli to see how it can be made more cheaply. Cooking, taste and enjoyment of food feature well down the priority list
