I'm not sure whether this is the right forum. I am having a few problems with my freeview box more with the ITV channels but occcasionally on bbc in that everynow and then either the sound or the picture breaks up. I have been told that this is probably due to a weak signal. What is the solution is it a new aerial or is it a signal booster (whatever that is) Has anyone any advice to offer?

A signal booster is a little box that electronically increases the amplitude of the signal (ie boosts it).
Yes Weather (wet) can affect reception too. Have you got an aerial suitable for digital reception? I bought an aerial from Asda for £17 (it was the only place open at the time!).....0 -
i am guessing an aerial the size of a satelite is needed. i am not a fan of freeview as we had the same problem and a signal booster made no difference. seriously investment in a better aerial might be needed but i'm no expert. do it before the analogue signal is turned off coz all the conmen will come out of the woodwork then. make sure it will help first though.0

Err no you don't!!!!
put your post code in this link it will tell you what compass bearing to point you aerial towards, and other useful info.....0 -
so we just need to fiddle with it? maybe i am thick but i didnt understand the info that webpage gave.
edit.
actually shouldnt it have already been pointed in that direction when it was first put up coz the signal comes from the same place that the analogue signal comes from. we get our analogue from bilsdale and it still says bilsdale for the digital.0 -

Yes it should already be pointing in the right direction, because the digital signal comes from the same transmitter, but it is worth checking.
You should also check if you have a wide band aerial. You can tell as on the rear end of the aerial is a black plastic bit (that you probably wouldn't realise it means anything). If it's another colour (red, yellow, green, brown, grey), then it isn't wide band.
Good quality co-ax. (Aerial wire) is also important. Some people may recommend satellite wire......0
