I hate line dried washing any time of year, all creased and much more of a need for ironing :( but I still dry things on the line in the summer. Otherwise in an airing cupboard.
Stopping bird poo? Bird scarers, a cat or an air rifle;)

Line-drying just adds a whole new element of fun and excitement to the laundry. Predicting if it's going to rain, the adrenaline rush of sprinting out to bring it in when an unexpected shower appears and you have nowt clean to put on the beds, the fun of giving the kids their school shirt frozen solid and telling them that they'll soon thaw out...

Or maybe that's just us. :D

Really? That's amazing, I find exactly the opposite and in fact I never iron anything! I find if I peg out carefully, and hang or fold things when they are dry, I can dispense with the tedious and time consuming business of ironing altogether :)

How do you get rid of the peg marks if you dont iron your clothes?
If i have washing to dry that i know i dont have to iron i always end up putting them on the horse indoors as i know if i put them on the line they will have peg marks and then i will have to iron them
Would love to know how people get round this?

It's great fun bringing the washing in when it's cold and icy - it goes as stiff as a board!

i always put the pegs right on the egdes of the clothes so peg marks hardly show then. i try to use washing line as much as poss. i'm lucky i live on a hill so we always get a breeze. in the summer it was taken 20 mins for a line of clothes to dry. fantastic. if i have towels to dry , even if it is cloudy if the wind is strong i put them out to get a good blast , then finish them off to dry indoors.

in all my years of hanging washing on line. must be about 5 years since hubby and i have set up home together. i can only remember a bird pooing on my washing once. having said that now, i bet i gets loads. lol

I am convinced the birds are attracted to my washing, especially at this time of the year when they have that lovely purple poo..ugh!!

I don't hang out during the winter, but I do try and hang dry as much as I can in my airing cupboard.

I would think that, if you use a whirligig rotary line outside, it would be feasible to put a waterproof top cover on it as the clothes wouldn't actually be in contact with plastic/whatever. The fresh air would blow through your clothers and the top cover would protect them from bird poo.

I haven't actually put it into practice but have thought about it!
Not very money saving I know, but something like this was sold, and still maybe for all I know. So rigging up something yourself should certainly be possible. You would need to work how to prevent the wind getting underneath it and lifting the whole caboodle into flight , and wind tearing the cover could be a problem.
