Hi Pixie... and any one else that wants to know:D
Yes.. you can make the pies and freeze them later... cos I do it all the time!
I try to spend an afternoon and make a big batch of them to freeze, cooked.
Then I can just get out enough for the evening meal.
I usually put them on a baking tray, cover it with tin foil and re-heat them from frozen.
Make sure they're piping hot though!
They are lush!!A family that eats together, stays together

I confess, I posted a wanted on the derwentside group!
Haven't had any replies though but it is just a little group, unless everyone's busy making pies.
Mags, I had wondered about that, but when I read the book, it says you can't reheat the pies. I suppose, if you're using cooked meat for the filling, then no you shouldn't really freeze them. It's maybe different if you're baking your pies from scratch with fresh raw meat.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
I always cook them from scratch... and then freeze them.
I haven't poisoned anyone yet!
(I suppose there's always a first time...only joking!!)
It's really like cooking anything from scratch and then freezing it and reheating.
They are a bit faffy to make until you get in the swing of it... I usually make the filling, cut out all the bottoms and tops, and then keep bunging them in and do other things whilst they're cooking... like the ironing or something else equally as boring!
(is it just me that finds ironing totally mind-numbing?)A family that eats together, stays together

I have seen these pie makers at boot fairs and have always resisted as my waistline is too thick to start eating pies as well! I used to love chicken and mushroom pies (Birds Eye). Another nice filling is that chicken in white sauce you get in a tin and add some sweetcorn and mushrooms. Drools.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

If you're looking for suggestions for fillings, you could try recreating some of Eat's ones. They don't give quantities but they do do unusual combinations (and they do give a list of ingredients in each weekly menu at the bottom):

I just didn't think that eight minutes in the pie maker would be long enough to cook meat from raw, or do you give the pies longer. The recipe book that came with the machine tells you to use cooked meat, except where they give recipes for quiche.

Shame that it has to be cooked meats used in it, unless it's still hot when you put it in, I wouldn't freeze and reheat them as that will mean you are reheating cooked food more than once, which is a no no on food safety. I think if it's cooked meats in them only due to quick cooking times it'd be best not to reheat them at all and eat them as soon as they are done. One day I might be more organised...........

Hi Lil me
Sorry, maybe I didn't make myself very clear before... I make the filling just before I make the pies, so it's still piping hot when I use it.
I thought that it would be the same as doing the bolognese sauce for a lasagne for the freezer and then re-heating it.
Flippen heck... don't say that I could have been poisoning my family by re-heating them again... eeeek!:eek:
