I have booked a holiday for two weeks in the Algarve and would like to know if anyone can recommend places to eat for vegetarians. We will be staying in Tavira , east of Faro. Would certainly welcome names of dishes that we could try.
Any help appreciated !!
Many thanks in advance.

Been to Lisbon so can't recommend specifics, but I had no problems, they eat a lot of fish dishes so there is always a lot of choice.
Obrigado!!!2p off is still 2p off!0 -
cant recommend any restaurants, but vegi options tend to be very similar to over here (ie lacking), so pizza, omlette, pasta with tom sauce
depends on how strict a vegi you are, or whether you are just a non meat/fish eater0 -
I think you'll be fine in the Algarve, especially if you stick to Italian, Portugal is used to veggies by now.
Poland on the other hand need some educating, I went there recently and ordered what I thought was the veggie option (i'm not actually veggie, just fancied it) I ordered Polish raviolli type thing with cheese and potato filling in a tomato sauce, it came with bits sprinkled on it I thought they were chopped apricots, turned out to be..... pork crakling  lesson being if it doesn't say it is veggie ASK, just to make sure
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt

My wife is a vegie and she finds that both Spain and Portugal tend to disregard Tuna as a fish and therefore tend to include it in dishes that appear to be vegie.Something Really Interesting0

For a start Tavira is lovely, and you're sure to have a good time there. It's a real portuguese town as opposed to 'just' a tourist resort, so with a bit of searching you will find good food.
You can make things a bit easier for yourself by taking with you - a note book with written translations of a few phrases asking for vegetarian options, listing clearly things you don't eat. A good library book should enable you to do this.
The vegetables are fabulous and there are often lots of tasty salads on offer - (don't be afraid to ask if there is nothing on the menu) - they also serve lots of different bean dishes which are delicious.
One option you always have is absolutely delicious bread, tasty tomatoes, and if you eat it locally produced cheeses.
One other point - Tavira is only a short distance from the Spanish border, if you're planning to go there at all, I'd prepare my translations in Spanish too. (If you're hiring a car they allow you to travel without extra cost). Roads are excellent.
Lastly, although you are a veggie - this part of the world produces the best cured ham in the world!0 -
You are an absolute star RESEARCHER. I feel good already and itching to get away.
I'll think of you when eating out on aveggie dish.

just a thought I had whilst walking the dog!
Do a search for 'free translation' (I use google) and you'll come up with lots of sites - select one and there you can type in the words or phrases you want translating - cut and paste into a word doc and print out and take with you - it'll save you lots of effort from searching in phrase books.
(Best to record both English and Portugese/Spanish - or you'll forget what the word means!!!)

Website we use
Hi,
We use https://www.happycow.com for when we want to find vegetarian restaurants when we travel. Does give info on if they also offer lacto & vegan options. Does include Portugal and has a listing for a restaurant in Faro.
I also normally visit the local tourist information centres for their restaurant lists, which quite often categorise vegan/vegetarian separately.
Hope this helps0 -
Thank you once again. Found both the above very useful. The translation sites are excellent and managed to find a singular restaurant in Faro.
Once again thanks
