smelly sink upstairs.any advice?

My upstairs en suite has an unpleasand"aroma!"which appears to becoming from the sink or shower.A few weeks ago i put some mr muscle sink unblocker stuff down as water draining away slowly.This helped but now the smell is back.Any cheap ideas please?The stuff was £4 but im sure there is an old style product that you can put down but cant remember what its called.

Soda crystals. Put a cup full down the drain leave for around half an hour then rinse with hot water.0

You might find that undoing and cleaning the u-bend of any gunk that is trapped in it will help. Shower trays particularly are blighters for catching stray hair, soap scum and other unmentionable particles!
I generally find that is the cause of slow draining. Couple of kettles of boiling water chucked down afterwards may also help.0 -
I used the tip from the moneysaving book. Bicarb of soda then white vinegar down the plughole for about 10 mins (though I confess I put the plug in and leave it for ages) then a boiling kettle chaser. Does seem to help and the smell of vinegar only lingers for a minute or two. BTW the reaction of the soda and the vinegar causes a mini volcano, this is normal0
