joint account with non uk citizen - is this possible?

I wondered if anyone could help with the following query - I want to open a bank account jointly with my daughter ( who is a US citizen). Basically I want her to have access to some funds if she had to make a visit home if I was unwell or in an emergency. Will it be possible to do this in any major UK bank?
Any help would be appreciated.

The citizenship would not be an issue, the only problem they might have is with her being non-resident.

They might find it easier to accept her as an additional signatory on your own account. Unles anyone on here has the knowledge, your best bet would be to start asking at banks.

An alternative method would be to grant her Lasting Power of Attorney; that way, under the circumstances you envisage, she would be able to handle any of your affairs, not just your bank account.
  • I agree that opening a joint account at your bank or putting her name on your existing account is the best way forward.

These days she would have to be present with you ar the branch to start the process - her passport would be fine for ID and as an existing customer you could introduce her to confirm her US address.
