Face painting is really quite hard work: each face can take a while if you're not practised, although if you keep it really simple and don't give 'options' it could work! But you do need to be mindful of kids with snotty noses and funny skins and things like that.

Glad it went well - You will do it all again next year as (like childbirth) the pain fades over 12 months!!! Good idea to plan ahead and buy things for the goody bags when you see offers (Tesco often have games etc reduced to 10p which are good for this, and Asda recently had an enormous box of lipgloss's and eyeshadows that would have split into goody bags and was very cheap). It is a good idea to get them to do crafts as they all sit down. Icing biscuits, making cards etc and remember next year to get a bottle of Gin/Wine/lager whatever for yourself for afterwards!! You deserve it!

It's one of many variations on a theme - but really easy to play.

Pick 4 (for sake of arguement) points in the room and name them - colours, characters from the party theme, food (like the earlier mentioned fruit salad, or one my son played a few weeks back of sausage, chips and beans), etc.

Play some music and get the kids dancing in the middle of the room. When the music stops, they all have to pick a corner, and someone (who hasn't been looking) calls one out. You can then either do it as an 'everyone a winner' game and give the kids on that corner a sweet, or call them 'out' and carry the game on to it's natural end.

I've also played it as islands at my eldest's 6th party, which involves markers on the floor instead of corners - I used four different colours of paper, others actually shape the paper into islands etc. We ended up playing it twice, by popular demand.
