Thanks again, more good ideas there. I think we've settled on having it at home. My daughter likes this idea and as it happens a little boy we'd be inviting is having a whacky warehouse party a week later,so she'll still get to go.. hopefully.
I've been speaking with a friend who is great at organising house parties, she's had lots of different theme's for boy and girl and she's busy organising one for her daughter's 8th, she wants a high school musical party!
She has given me some ideas and ideas on simple food, which is great. She's also offered me the use of her ikea plastic plates/cups etc, so that will be helpful and moneysaving!

I've got a few games sorted out, think we decided to stay away from the ceramic painting this time, maybe when she's a little older.
Pin the horn on the unicorn, we may put numbers or names on each horn so we know who's is who.
    Four corners
Pass the parcel x 2 possibly
Pass the tiara (or something like that).. whoever has the tiara when the music stops is out.

My friend suggested a picture bingo type game, putting pictures on a large dice and matching with their cards.. not sure about that one yet though, some younger ones may get a bit bored. I'll have a few 4 year olds there as well.

I'm not having any more than 12 children, so shouldn't be too bad.. I hope.
I'll let my 11 year old supervise, he'll love it.

Just now got to get invites sorted and out then see how many are actually going to turn up..she'll be gutted if hardly any come.
How do you get over that one, should that happen??

Still open to more suggestions though, should anyone else have any?

    Thanks

oh erm, idea's for prizes and goody bags?? Got winner type medals that asda have I believe. We can make button badges so may do something with those, if we get time.
Will try poundland and asda for little things.. erasers, notebooks, bubbles, few sweets etc.

Just to reassure you about picnic food on the floor - my DS and DD1 went to an expensive party at a soft play place, and the arty tea was food in the boxes on the floor. Noone batted an eyelid. And it was full of the guest-children's parents who were posh too. So on the floor will be fine!

For my 3 year old DD party tea we did heart shaped sandwiches with a heart party cutter, she loved them!

Might be worth asking your local McDonalds if they will sell you a load of happy meal boxes without the food but with the toy for half price or something, that way you get a party bag toy as well ?

Face painting is a doddle. I go an ELC kit , was £6. Just tell them they can choose from Power Ranger or Spicerman for the boys, or Butterfly or Ladybird for the girls (or whatever) don't just give themn free rein, if they ask for something you can't do just say sorry its only butterfly or spiderman today. I did a pirate for my son, gave him skull and cross bones on his cheek and a load of stubble and some scars! I am not arty but it was really easy. You can practise on your DD between now and party!

A really simple craft activity goes down well and kills 20 minutes - cut our some paper or card crown 5 inch wide srips with a zig zag top, tape ends together to make crown shapes and give them glue and shiny bits to decorate their own crown, they can wear it as a party hat and get to take it home.

My son was at a 5th birthday party on the weekend, his party bag was cake, choc buttons, a little plastic dinosaur (I would guess it came in a bag of 10 for a quid), a pencil and a nitepad. Can't have cost more than about 50p and he was made up, has been drawing like mad in his little notebook since then. I've put pencils in party bags recently too and got Asda Smart Price, it was under a pound for 12. For prizes we do a lucky dip or wrapped tiny things like bubbels, packs of pencils, sweets. They just love the idea of getting a prize and seem to spend ages fishing about in the lucky dip and dont really care what they actually got.

You need to finish with sleeping unicorns - I used to know it as sleeping lions, but if unicorns are in vogue, I'm sure they sleep too.

All the children lie down and pretend to go to sleep. No noise. No moving. Anyone seen moving or heard giggling is out, but they have to stay quiet so as not to put people off. And you start with a few minutes where you don't say people are out, just to get some peace and to let them get settled.

Best game in the world, IMO! :rotfl:

Thanks for all that, great ideas. I like the idea of decorating crowns. Might do Tiara style for the girls and crowns for the boys. Actually my DD has a book of fairy craft stuff, I believe there is a tiara bit in there.. might have a look. COuld get more ideas.

Just wish I had more time to organise it now.
Face paints I'll think about.. but may need a bit more confidence,so might try that for next time. :rotfl:
  • Hope your organizing is going well, i'm sure the party will go well, children usually just enjoy being in the company of others and always manage to make games up for themselves.

    Hi Luna69
I think your party idea sounds great. My kids are older now, but we have had parties at home and in play area's over the years. Ive done the food in the boxes that you suggest - just be prepared for a few faddy eaters (but dont worry too much as i'm sure they'll get fed when they get home!!!) Party bags - dont spend too much on these as they never use anything in them!!(apart from the chocolate). I always used to bulk the bags up by popping the cake to take home in these. A kids disco tape always goes down well, and we always ended with "Dead Fishes" of which my DD is the world champion (even at 15!!) . Limbo dancing is good - 2 adults and a stick are all that is required. And Twister if you have it. I dont know if you have a PS2, but girls love Singstar and can pass a whole evening taking it in turns on this!! Have a great time and take plenty of photo's

Thanks. Need to get invites organised for end of this week I think, OH is doing those though, I hope.

Yeah, my DD just loves the idea of having friends here as we don't do it that often. She'll be hyper.

She's been trying to make her own pin the horn on the unicorn.. however the horns are currently bigger than the unicorn drawing! :rotfl: But she's trying.
I told her that dad will print one out and she had a tantrum! :rotfl:

Hopefully it should go okay.. fingers crossed.

I had thought about faddy eaters, but you can't cater for everyone, they all dislike something, so I'm not that worried. I know from party bags my DD has brought in that most of it ends up broke and in the bin, unless it's pens/pencils/rubbers and drawing books, sweets and cake.. so will go with those types of things. Oh and bubbles are usually used.

We have a ps2 but no singstar, however I may be able to borrow it from a friend if necessary. Will 4-6 year olds be okay with it?
We have a few games to play so we may be okay anyway.

What is dead fish? Is this like the sleeping lions/unicorns?
Limbo sounds good too, don't have twister but think we may be covered now.. hopefully, I"m sure I'll think of something if not.

Just hope now that people we invite can turn up, or DD will be gutted.
