hard boiled egg question....

i love hard boiled egg in sandwiches, but don't have time to boil them and let them cool in the morning. How long can you keep boiled eggs in the fridge? is in shell better than shelled and lock and locked?
thanks
jodie

  • I think I would boil the eggs, cool them quickly in cold water then store them in the fridge complete with shells.
I'm not sure how long they would keep, couple of days maybe, to be on the safe side.

They'll keep hardboiled in the fridge longer than they would fresh. Leave in the shells though. No reason why you can't cook a working week's in advance. Also as you probably know the fresher the raw eggs are the more difficult they are to peel when boiled (older threads on this topic abound).

i had no idea about the freshness thing, no. so i could cook them nearer the use by and use them after? ( only a couple of days) working on the same principle as cooking meat etc to keep past sell by?

    Yep. No problem.

In fact, I keep my eggs in the fridge as soon as I buy them.

As for the freshness test for eggs - take a look...

Yes indeed. If I have both fresh and HB in the fridge door at the same time I even mark the HB ones with felt tip to avoid any mix up!

I boiled some eggs on sunday. I have one left that I was going to have today.

I assume it will be ok today?

Never sure how long to keep things like that.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi calley,

I would think it will be fine if it's been kept refrigerated in the shell. There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your question to it to keep the replies together.
