Barclaycard won't allow me to Balance Transfer

I have a Barclaycard Platinum card with a £2,300 limit. I'm about £10 in credit on it at the moment. I called asking what interest rate they would offer me for a balance transfer and was told that a balance transfer was not available on my card. Anyone know why or how I can change that???

Why would a credit card company not want the chance to get some interest off me?

Hi, sorry to hear that. I assume you asked why but were told something along the lines of "because the computer says so". Do you have any other Barclays accounts that are in the red as there may be a crossover from that.

  • Hi bismarck - no other Barclays accounts at all. Do you think it is because my income is not paid into a Barclays current account?

Yes, "computer says no". Maybe I can try to get through to someone based in the UK to ask the question of but finding the lucky number combination ("press 1, if ...") can prove a challenge

Yes - good luck with the "getting to talk to the right person" game. Some are willing but don't understand the complex stuff which is a bit baffling in itself as the questions we have are pretty predictable you'd think until their system messes up....

Don't see what not having a current account should have to do with it. As you say, you'd think they'd be keen to take the capital.

If you call the same number often enough after going through the blah about your balance (press 6 for what would like to do today...) you may get someone who is on your wavelength. Please post and let us know how it goes.

Why don't you tell them that you'll close the account? BC don't offer anything over what you'd get from other companies now. I just got a Tesco card with a £2500 limit and it gives extra tesco points etc
