Discontinued products...

I am looking to buy a new fridge/freezer as an imminent new arrival to the family means what we have now would be inadequate.

We have looked about for a few options and have found a frigidaire frc196ff 432ltr one that is £299.00 in Laser Electrical, a local (N. Ireland) retailer.
The best online deal i found is £329.00 inc delivery

The only problem i can see is that some sites say this is a discontinued oriduct from the manufacturer so i am concerned on whether this will be a risky purchase if it ever breaks down, or if it would still be covered by warranty.

Would anyone here have any advice on my purchase and whether i should proceed?
Any help will be much appreiated.

  • Why not go for a better brand like Samsung http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=402532 and it holds more to its £20 more but has free delivery? Go through Kelkoo or pricerunner and see if you can get it cheaper.

I'm sure the guarantee for the one you chose would still stand as you get many retailers trying to get rid of stock that is old. The first year guarantee i'm sure is held with the retailer who sold the item to you although I have had some retailer referring me to the manufaturer for bulky items such as this. As long as the manufacturer has not gone bust you should be ok I guess.

Don't worry, this is a good way to get a bargain.

Fridge/freezers are pretty reliable anyway, if it is going to go wrong it usually happens in the g'tee period. Don't forget it is the shop you bought the item from who is legally responsible for the g'tee, NOT the manufacturer. You have exactly the same rights as if it were a brand new model just come onto the market that day.

Most manufacturers can supply spares for 10 years after they stop making an item, and after that you can often get spares from independent dealers who buy them cheap from the manufacturer when he sells of his remaining spares stock after the 10 years.

I have a new Canon cooker in my kitchen, end of range, saved over 30% on it !

i think that one is a bit smaller when converting the nett cu ft to litres and it is £50 mor ethan the one i can buy in the shop.

the frigidaire brand had crossed my mind as although i have heard of it, i don't know much about it.

maybe anyone who owns one might want to let me know what they think of them?

    thanks for that anyway.

Bare in mind with frost free fridge/freezers and freezer they tend to be smaller a little bit inside. However I think if you take into account that they dont ice up it more or less cancels this issue

Frost free are some much less agro. I got a brand new freezer coming tomorrow a FRIGIDAIRE FRF170FF from Currys just under £300 for a large up right and I got 5% off plus cashback, free del and taking old one away for free

Beko ones arent bad we got a fridge freezer still going now the one I mentioned go tomorrow and its A+ rating. Check for energy rating and get A or A+ if you can
