EBay - Buy It Now Price?

Help please for an Ebay newbie!

I listed an item last night as a straightforward auction with no Buy It Now price. Today I have received a message from a prospective buyer asking what my BIN price is. What do I do? Can you change to a BIN after an auction is listed? If so, should I? If I did agree to sell to this person how do I withdraw my auction?? So many questions, so confused! From previous similar sales I can see that this is an item that is quite sought after and may well go for a good price as an auction, (already have several watching). I really feel that I want the auction to run so how could I politely word that to the buyer?

Many thanks for any help :o

Just respond via ebay and say that due to the amount of interest in this item there is no BIN price offered.

  • I always answer with something like "Thanks for your interest in the item, but I am going to let this auction run its course. Happy Bidding."
    .....

  • You could say something along the lines of 'if there is no BIN price listed on the auction, thenI boviously don't want to sell it at a BIN price'! Or not... he could be a potential bidder!

Must say my initial thought was to reply like that!!!! But, with hindsight praps davetrousers' and soolin's might be better responses. :D

I'm just puzzled as to why he asked!!!
  • maybe he thought that he could get a potential bargain if he suggested a BIN price and you accepted? It may be the case that the item could go for a good amount if it's left to run on the auction.
Can I ask what the item is?

People always try and offer money like this on ebay listings, it is against ebay regulations/rules though - you should report them for offering to complete a transaction outside of ebay - by the email message there is a button to report abuse or something like that.

Its someone who recognises that bidding is going well, and thinks they can get it cheaper than the final price by getting you to end the auction early.
  • I've had this - I've always responded saying that as the item has a fair number of watchers, it wouldn't be fair to change the listing, and so I'll be letting it run its course. I'd also add that it seems fairer that way, as it's tricky to judge a buy it now price on some items.

I agree! Personally I'd do the same.
You could close the item and then re-list with a BIN price, but you could be selling yourself short if this buyer isn't for real or just wanting to get a lower price.

i dont see any suggestion that they are asking to complete outside of ebay, they just asked for a BIN price, which can be done on a lisiting if there are no bids to date.

I've sometimes asked a seller if they'd be willing to do this, not becaue I'm after a bargain but because I really want the item and can't wait for the listing to end, maybe because I want the item now or maybe because the listing is going to end when I'm not around.

If both buyer and seller can agree on a price then why not.

It's an old, but practically unused Kenwood Chef - in pristine condition and with all the tools and attachments. I was staggered to see how much they go for so I fished mine out of the back of the cupboard where it was just gathering dust. Next problem - how to pack the thing up for shipping!!! :o
