Hi Everyone
Sorry to gate crash was just looking for some quick inspiration, not sure if this is in the right place.
Background info- It's Dp's birthday tomorrow and I was really upset as I was supposed to be working late tonight and early tomorrow so I wouldn't really see him much and we wouldn't be able to do anything. But work have just rang me and told me I can have the day off today as we are working overtime on Saturday and also I can go in late tomorrow!!! YAY!
So I thought I could surprise him with a really nice meal when he gets home from work and decorate the dining room with a few balloons and set the table all nice with candles etc.
Anyway, question??? What can I cook? I want something special but not too complicated. I can pop out for any ingredients I might need, although obviously needs to be cheapy.
DP doesn't like red meat or oily fish (SO FUSSY) He loves chicken/turkey and he can't get enough of mushrooms. Any ideas??
Thanks in advance.

HM Chicken kievs (wrapped in bacon, or with breadcrumbs) stuff with either garlic butter or cheese & ham etc, served with HM garlic mushrooms/breaded mushrooms & HM potato wedges. Might want to leave out the garlic depending on what your after dinner plans are....0

Thanks everyone, think I'm going to go with stuffing a chicken breast with cream cheese then wrapping it with bacon and serving it with roast potoatoes and .................(suggestions for a veg???) Also would I need to do a sauce with this do you think?
Also I'd like to do a mushroom type starter, possibly breaded mushrooms in a garlic dip (how do I make these things?)
Also, pudding- I'm not sure what to make for pudding- he doesn't like cheesecake (I love it though!) so any ideas?, preferably something I can prepare in advance?
Thanks in advace guys

For a starter, mushrooms in a sort of garlicky white sauce (not too rich) on little croutes of toast. Even just cut the crusts off and cut in triangle looks nice. You could probably make and reheat the mushroom part.
Lemon meringue pie for pud maybe?:wave:0 -
i would do breaded mushrooms for starter ,, Really nice wit garlic sauce ..
Butter and garlic work well together
As for chicken i would buy chicken breast .. chop up mushroom and bacon and wrap the chicken mushroom and bacon then cook

breaded mushrooms ....
Crack one egg into a ball and whisk.. in another bowl put some breadcrumbs either shop bought or home made..
then dip a mushroom into flour ... then inot the egg and then roll in bread crumbs .. Then when you have completed them all put in the freezer for 30 mins. This will help keep it all togheter and preven the breadcrumbs falling off.
Then deep fry or grill (deep fry is better)
Chop garlic into fine peices saute in a pan of olive oil .. drain and use kitchen towl to remove excess oil ..
Then add to a blender with butter and some chives .. whizz till the whole lot is mixed together .. Then heat up in a small pan just before serving and drizzle over your breaded mushrooms

Line a basin with these ..mix choclate powder eggs and milk and whisk .
The pour over the pan au chocolate and oven cook for about 30 mins .. Just before serving grate fresh chocolate and ground almonds over the top .. this is a great chocolate bread and butter pudding

Made it with rogan josh paste and coley which is less than half the price of cod, but just like it.
I put some chopped up peppers in it, but you could add mushrooms too.I like to save the money...0 -

You should be fine without sauce because of the cream cheese.
Veg - oven is on anyway so could roast parsnips, carrots, onions with the potatoes?
Or frozen peas are super quick.0
