Tyres can be repaired, but they have to be sent off to do it.
Any half decent tyre fitter will be able to repair a tyre, tread centre should be no problem. Puncture repairs are allowed in the centre 60-70% of the tread, depending upon the tyre width.

    Also try www.mytyres.co.uk

They are supply only, so you need a local fitter to fit the tyres for you, though they do have recommendations of local fitters on the website. The cost of fitting varies greatly, so it's best to shop around - the smaller outlets are usually the best, larger outlets often don't really want to fit customer's tyres.

Two Avon ZV3 tyres in your size are currently under £60 delivered from mytyres, and you should be able to find someone who will fit and balance them locally for £8 each.

If you fit the tyres yourself, or happen to know someone who can fit them for you, it's an even better saving.;)
  • Had to Fork out £45 for one rear tyre...

£45 for a 195/50 R 15 V tyre is cheap. A good tyre eg. Michelin Pilote in that size could easily set you back £70 - £80.

I would recommend Event Mobile Tyres at http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/

They have done tyre refits at our home on two separate occassions; their prices are very competitive and service is excellent.

    Definitely worth a look.

The other alternative is buying used or part worn tyres. I got four tyres, on rims, for my car for £40 from a bloke who wanted to upgrade to alloy wheels.

My local scrap yard charges £10 for a tyre on a rim, and a some smaller independant tyre seller sell part worns, look in your local free paper.

I was quoted £170 for 2 tyres for my mondeo by my local tyre fitters who I have used before with excellent service. Black circle was £125 for similar quality, and their local fitter was .... you guessed it.... my local fitter!. A saving of £45 and the same great local service.
  • I always get mine from Motorama nowadays. They are quite competitive and do them while you wait. The last one I had replaced was £35 for a goodyear.

If the puncture is in the middle section of the tyre it can be repaired, I used to charge around £4 for this when I worked as a tyre fitter 6 years ago.

There is nothing wrong with budget tyres - it is remoulds which you need to watch out for. These are when a company gets an old bald tyre, smooths it off and superglues new tread to it, dont get these as they will just blow out.

For cheap tyres find a backstreet garage who fit tyres, say you will pick the tyre up from the supplier (they will have to pay as you need an account but they will save you money as none of their staff will have to take time to pick it up), ask for a budget tyre, request for it to be done 'off the books' this will save you from paying tax. Also, take your scrap tyres with you, a fitter will charge around £2 per tyre for disposal but you can take your own tyres to the local recycling centre and dispose of them free yourself.

Finally, be nice to the fitter, if you pass them the tools and are polite they will usually do it a little cheaper where as if you are irritating you will soon find hidden charges appear.

Hope this helps. It is 'insider' information from when I worked as a tyre fitter so it is all genuine ways to save a few quid here and there.

    I have been using http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk

The price includes fitting at your local National Tyres and Autocare. They have always worked out cheapest for me.

Lmao! are you the sheik of that realy old Cannonball run movie:confused:

I went to a back street place (always do) an I swear you get better service and they actually do a better job that Kwik Fit. All Kwik Fit do is look at your car, make a list of how crap it is and how they can charge you (insert ££££'s here) for making it safe:rotfl:

A load of old carp:rolleyes: Il stick with the father and son team down the back lane. Atleast you know they will do a good job!
