  • Can the tyre be repaired?

Most towns have tyre places. I would steer clear of Kwik Fit and National. Phone around and get some quotes.

I am sure some people will recommend some online places (such as black circles) but in my experience these aren't any cheaper.

    I;m gonna recommend black circles

They are great. It means you get to read reviews of which tyre you want from other people. You get to choose which tyre you want, not what is available off the shelf from your local kwik fit. You get to book your car in for its fitting at a pre arranged time from somewhere local, so you know that the tyres will be there and waiting and the fitting will happen at that time. You get to choose where you want the tyres fitted and can read the reviews from other people on how good the fitter are.

I can fault the process enough. And the tyres were a hell of a lot cheaper than any quotes I could get from any of the places around me.
  • I got a quote for £90 for two new budget tyres this morning:rolleyes:

Didnt know they were that expensive. They are 195 50 15 V 82.

I might look into getting that other tyre repaired.

That doesn't sound that expensive to me. Though I would go for a reputable brand of tyres.

I wouldn't recommend budget tyres. They are just not cost or safety effective.

Using black circles, You could have two mid range Firestones for £82 fully fitted.
  • If the nail is straight through the middle of the tread, it should be repairable. This will reduce the maximum speed rating of the tyre, but this will still be higher than 70 mph.

If not, then - with tyres, which don't tend to give you second chances - I would recommend avoiding the budget Albanian cart tyres and getting the best available quality for the lowest available price.

I wouldn't discount KwikFit or National too quickly - they can be surprisingly competitive, especially at the end of the month, when the manager might be getting desperate to meet his monthly sales targets.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
  • Had to Fork out £45 for one rear tyre...

Costco is very good for tyres. A couple of months ago I had all four of mine replaced (for my Fiesta) for about £150 and they were Michelins. They also replaced them while I shopped, which was a bonus.
    somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's

Tyres can be repaired, but they have to be sent off to do it.
On Blackcircles you can buy two top performance tyres including fitting for £95 in your size.
    Happy chappy
