I moved into my house 2 years ago. In the dining room I have a black cast iron wood burning stove.
It's purely ornamental and upto now I have just been wiping it over with a damp cloth, but it's now looking a bit "grey".
What can I use to bring up the blackness? There must have been a load of products years ago. My Nan said something about "black leading", but I don't know what that is or where I can get it.
Any ideas?

we get our cleaning / black stuff in france - its a modern black leading without the lead! suggest contact a stove sales outlet here and ask - sure they will have something similar.0

Look under "cleaning" in the MEGA index (currently a sticky) and there's a thread there that might be of helpHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Thanks Squeaky
Found the thread and it looks like I need "zebo" blacking polish which I can get from a fireplace shop.
Do you think black shoe polish would do the job?0 -
shoe polish would melt when it heated up.
Clean the glass if it has a glass bit ...with

Hi,
I don't use the wood burner - it's just ornamental, so I wouldn't have the problem with the shoe polish melting.
Woudl the astonish cream be for the black?0
