Help - Brake problems

Don't know if we have any mechanics among us (an enthusiastic amateur will probably know the answer to this one). My car was involved in an accident a couple of weeks ago and went in to be repaired. I got it back last week and hadn't had a problem until yesterday. As part of the repairs the offside rear wheel was replaced with a new alloy. I think my problem maybe down to the fact that the wheels haven't been balanced correctly but would like some confirmation please. When driving on the motorway the car gets to about 60 but when trying to accelerate over and beyond that (obviously sticking to the 70mph limit :p ) the car starts to judder and feels like it isn't firing properly at all. However the problem is worse when braking from reasonably high speeds. As I brake from about 60mph the car judders and the steering wheel wobbles and the car feels like its going to stall but doesn't. Any thoughts please?

I'm certainly no expert, but it sounds like your brake disc could be warped. That wouldn't explain the mis-fire you're experiencing though. I think I'd be tempted to take it to back to the garage that repaired it & get them to check it out again.

Thanks Zacspeed. I took it two other garages today (well a garage and Kwik Fit!) and they all said the same as you when I explained the symptoms. However when Kwik Fit put it on the ramp and tested it on a rolling road they said they couldn't see any problem with the discs. Really don't know what to do now. The garage that did the repairs are only really a bodywork garage and i'm not sure what they know about mechanics. Basically the damage to my car was at the back and the problem now appears to be from the front brakes - or could it be something to do with the rear wheel (my rear offside wheel took the brunt of the force in the accident). Any thoughts gratefully received. I'm at my wits end - the missus is 7 months pregnant and quite rightly refusing to get into the bloody car!

How about contacting your (or the other persons) insurance company and telling them you're not happy with the quality of repair?
