Hi all,
Is it ok to post a copy logfile on this thread?
I've read previous threads where this has solved the same problem I have and was hoping for similar help.
Tried downloading various scan programmes but the pop ups come up more often than ever!!!
All help will be much appreciated
Thanks

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
    • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)6 Update 4...allows end-users to run Java applications".
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Select your Plattform: "Windows".
    • Select your Language: "English".
    • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
  • I'm not seeing anything obvious here which could indcate that you will need to dig deeper, this is outside my confort zone.

What I would do however is download and run the following to see if that helps.

    1. Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Please download DrWeb-CureIt & save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

    Scan with DrWeb-CureIt as follows:
    • Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to start the program. An "Express Scan of your PC" notice will appear.
    • Under "Start the Express Scan Now", Click "OK" to start. This is a short scan that will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
    • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
    • Choose the "Scan tab" and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis"
    • Back at the main window, click "Custom Scan", then Select drives (a red dot will show which drives have been chosen).
    • Then click the "Start/Stop Scanning" button (green arrow on the right) and the scan will start.
    • When done, a message will be displayed at the bottom advising if any viruses were found.
    • Click "Yes to all" if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
    • When the scan has finished, look if you can see the icon next to the files found. If so, click it, then click the next icon right below and select "Move incurable".
(This will move it to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if it can't be cured)
    • Next, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list.
    • Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
    • Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
    • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
    • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

    then

    2. Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
    • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
    • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
    • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
    • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
    • Click the Scanning Control tab.
    • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
      • Close browsers before scanning.
      • Scan for tracking cookies.
      • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
    • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
    • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
    • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
    • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
    • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
    • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
    • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
    • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
    • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
    • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
      • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
      • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
      • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
      • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
    • Click Close to exit the program.
  • Hi RS,
    Thanks for your help.
I've updated the Java successfully. Early start tomorrow though so will have to continue later tomorrow.

    Cheers:D
  • Hi again,
Here's the Dr. Web report -

    winvnc.exe;C:\Program Files\Source Software\The Source\vnc;Program.RemoteAdmin;Incurable.Moved.;
    A0095472.exe;C:\System Volume Information\_restore{6CBD8E90-B20B-40FB-8530-661935D6E011}\RP461;Modification of Win32.HLLM.Generic.343;Moved.;

Getting late, so I'll try the other tomorrow.

  • Thanks again RS,

The SuperAntiSpyware has done the job.

It took a while to complete, and after a reboot - no more pop-ups.
