who knows?
the only good news is the closer to zero it gets, the bigger bargain it is.....
THe only question is, will it be an even bigger bargain in six months time?
Natural resources still seem fashionable for the time being. Who knows beyond that.0 -
It is a conundrum. I can't see anything making much of a return this year, and expect most things will lose. I took a fair chunk of my savings out last year and put them in a bank account, which I'm glad about now as I think that will give the best return. But what to do with the rest now is a problem. Leave it being hammered and hope things work out OK? Or crystalise the loss now in case the crash continues?
I'm not too worried about my own money though, as I did get a chunk out, and don't have much anyway. Plus I'm working age and will be for a long time yet. I'm worried about my Mum though, as she has insurance from my Dad's death and his lump sum pension payment, which she is hoping will bring her a small income, and last a while. Hers are all tied up in funds, and if she loses heavily she'll be gutted. Have (and never have had) any idea what to advise her to do. She knows nothing about finance and doesn't want to either, which doesn't help. She'll just see the statement at the end of the year and have a fit if it's gone down a lot.0 -
Build an all-weather multi asset class portfolio consisting of domestic and international stocks, property, commodities and bonds. That way if one sector is troubled then hopefully others will be doing fine. Well - I think at least commodities and bonds have been doing okay lately...
Forget about the temporary bear markets. Statistically you're likely to get a couple in any 10 year period. Just keep investing if you're in it for the long term!0 -
I've got a balanced "high risk" funds portfolio with significant proportions in emerging markets and natural resources. My UK and European funds are doing the worst - one is down 26% from when I bought it in October. Overall i'm 10% down since October. I'm just going to leave it and probably add some more money in about 6 to 9 months time. From the general mood and feeling, i'm not really expecting to make any money from these funds this year!0
