Advice on dodgy emails?

I've started receiving dodgy emails informing me of bogus lottery wins, money left to me and also ones suggesting there has been unauthorised activity on a bank account etc. they have automatically gone to my spam folder and then I just delete them. Is there any way of stopping them altogether or would I have to change my email address to do this?
I have Avast and Spybot and am using Vista.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

No way to stop them I'm afraid. Just be glad that your filter works.0

Hi there,
I have two main email addresses, one private and one public.
If I sign up for newsletters, etc I use the public one in the forms. I get very little spam in my private inbox.
I find that once your email address is 'out there' it's hard to stop the emails, though there may be others who know how!!
Hope that helps,

If you're on Outlook Express this will help.
When you're in your "Inbox" and the dodgy email is highlighted look to the top of your screen on the (blue) bar where it says FILE EDIT and so forth. Click on MESSAGE and it should give you the option to Block Sender. HTH.:wave:0 -
Do what I do I route everything through a gmail account and then forward it to a clean e-mail account. Gmail has quite a good spam filter, once I educate it with the odd stray message I get very few now.0

And one more tip (which you may be aware of already): NEVER reply to a spam email, as this just confirms that they are holding a valid email address for you."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0

Spam will never go away, most of it is annoying but some of it can contain nasties, one option is to use an email screener such as Poptray, you can view your email on the mail server before you download it (cherry pick) it also has a useful facility to set up rules to block the sender, it's free & easy to set up and use. Once the Spaming pond life get your address well that's it I'm afraid. Over the years I have found that deleting mail at the server is the only realistic answer. As said above never ever reply to spam"Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

Many thanks to you all for some great advice which has been very useful. I did set up two email accounts previously, one for public use. Strangely enough, the spam is getting sent to my private one so I must have used it by mistake once and this is the result! Still, your advice is helping me sort it out.
