E:16/2 - Win 1 of 3 x Short Breaks in UK (MERGED)

Reg / Log In (Great Competitions)

CLICKY

Three lucky readers can choose from Premier Cottages' range of cottages for a short-break, from picturesque thatched cottages in Devon, to stunning apartments in the Peak District or even an 18th century modernised farm worker's bothy in Scotland.

What is the correct definition of a 'bothy'?

ANS:

A small Cottage:D

A Scottish broth

A small castle

From here: Wikipedia.
Most bothies are formerly ruined buildings that have been restored to a basic standard, providing a windproof and watertight shelter. They vary in size from little more than a large box up to two-storey cottages. They usually have designated sleeping areas. Commonly, these are either an upstairs room or a raised platform, thus allowing one to keep clear of cold air and draughts at floor height. No bedding, mattresses or blankets are provided. Public access to bothies is either on foot, by bicycle or boat.

It's hard to beat a UK cottage break when it comes to re-charging batteries, especially at this time of year. There's nothing more satisfying than having the time to catch those early rays of weak sunshine, and the first glimpse of spring flowers.

Established ten years ago, Premier Cottages' standards are exceptionally high, in all of the 1000 properties. All are independently owned and boast a minimum of 4 or 5 star grading.

In fact, many of the cottages are also located in their own superb flower and vegetable gardens - and there are even a few that open their gardens to the public!
