orange internet

I have a laptop which I use with orange broadband contacted to a speedtouch adsl modem. I'd like to be able to use the laptop wireless but cannot get my head around how to do it.
What sort of router do I need ? How is that router connected for wireless ?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Chris

  • The PC could already be wireless ready by having a bult in wireless card, what is the laptop make and model please.

The router you would need would be an ADSL router as you are using a phone line and DSL is for cable routers, The thing is that once you get the router there is a setup diagram included with a start up disc also.

folks will give more answers with better info in a mo :)

laptop is a compaq presario v6000 with xp pro sp2 installed. So I switch on my wireless switch on the laptop and then conect an adsl router instead of my wired modem and hopefully bob's your uncle
  • According to the Compaq site your PC is ready for wireless so a router is the only thing thats needed.

As you are with Orange are you on a broadband package that qualifies for their livebox?

The livebox will permit you to add wireless devices to your phone line (upto 6 I think) I have my pc hard wired to one and use my laptop & ipod on a wireless connection.

    Thanks all for your replies.
Do all adsl routers contain their own modem then ?
So if I switch on the wireless on the laptop , disconnect my existing speedtouch modem and connect an adsl router in its place I should be able to use the laptop wirelessly in a different part of the house to the router itself.
