Student with a lil bit extra

Options
I am a uni student and i have found myself to be quite well off as i have worked a fair amount. I have paid all my rent this year and i stil have 1k in the bank and abother 2 k from loan and grant comming in april. I woul dlike ot try and get the most out of this money whil ei have the chance and make some back!
Does and one know of an account that last about 2-3 years with a good interest rate on it? preferably about 5% per year. I wouldnt be able to put in monthly amounts however i would want to put in money every 3-4 months, as a one off payment. are there any that are good for this purpose?

My son has invested his spare cash in a tax free ISA.

His is with NS&I DIRECT ISA Here your first payment is £1000 any future amounts are £250 minimum.

You can open tax year 2007/08 and invest a maximun of £3000 before April 2008.

Tax year 2008/09 you will need to open another one (provider of your choice) and I believe the maximum for this tax year has been raised to £3,600.

Hi there - I am a student myself as well. I use Halifax web saver and fixed rate web saver. They offer between 5-6%. I know that it not as great as a few here, but pretty good compared to most of the other accounts.

I choosed them cos i have always been with them and also have student current account with overdraft facilities with them. They do have a branch in the Uni as well. May be you want to consider this option.

    Good luck!

ive put most of my loan in my ISA and my gf one. Another good tip is to get the halifax student account, get the full 2750 and place it in your ISA, if thats full check out others.
