Cannot access MSE on Desktop PC

The MSE page just times out on my desktop PC, other sites work fine.
Switched off al firewalls and protection, but still no MSE.

I am using my laptop to access MSE through exactly the same wireless network without any issues.

Firefox and IE have the same problem.
It is an XP machine, and has accessed MSE in the past.

Any advice on troubleshooting.this would be appreciated.

TCPIP settings are similar.
Reinstalled the PCI wirelss card latest driver.

Delete all your cookies and private data in the browsers and try again.

It may be a DNS fault with your ISP or your PC, you could flush the DNS, open a command prompt (Start > Run and type CMD and hit OK) and type:

    ipconfig /flushdns

    and press enter.
  • I used to get this trouble with ntl at one time. The only way I could get it to work was to go through a proxy.

    Thanks isofa.
I tried the /flushdns but to no avail on Sunday.
I will try deleting the cookies and private data, see if that fixes it.
Since both PCs are using the same provider (Virgin Media) I assume it is not an issue with them.

It could well be an issue with the Virgin DNS servers.

You could try a temporary proxy server to see if it'll load up, then you'll know it's not your PC.

    Try http://www.publicproxyservers.com/

but don't use these proxy servers for anything secure / banking etc, as you don't know what computers your data is travelling through!

I was also going to post a similar problem but thought in case it was connected that I should add it here.

I am also on the dreaded Virgin (8 meg NOT) and am struggling with MSE 'freezing' my PC. I have done lots of trials and tests and it is only MSE that gives me problems. I'm not very techie but I will try and explain what I mean as best I can.

Firstly I just keeping getting 'page not found' when browsing within MSE and then the error message page just sticks and I can't close it nor can I open any other page or even my emails. The only way to free my PC is to CTRL/DEL/AL and close everything.

I also can't use MSE with any other website, for instance I may be listing on Amazon but if I have MSE open as well the pC will freeze and if I leave it a few minutes and come back I can use Amazon but MSE just sits there stuck. I can see the tab at the bottom margin but if you try and open MSE from there nothing happens and if I try for too long to reopen MSE I just stick the PC again. I've even tried closing everything else down and I can see the open tab near the start menu to say MSE is open but I can go right back to my desktop without finding it, then again it freezes the lot.

I also sometimes get a problem that if I continually try to open MSE when I have another site open I get both sort of over each other in one window like a ghost.

This only hapens with MSE, no other web page is affected.

I use CC to clear my cookies and do that several times a day. I also ran McAfee yesterday twice and did a systems restore, but it makes no difference.

Just hoping I can post this now as if I get stuck I will lose it all!
