Car insurance declined after accepted due to job?

Just got my car insurance with INSURE YOUR MOTOR. Everything went through fine then I got a letter from them saying it had subsequently been declined by Corinthian the insurers. When I queried this they said it was because I had a van. I drive a citroen berlingo with 5 seats van shape but not classed as a van. They also said it was due to my job as a health visitor! I do 1200 business miles a year around 100 a month. I do not carry patients or any type of cargo. I and my colleagues are mystified. No one has ever been declined insurance for their job. Insure your Motor have admitted they made a mistake and that their underwriters should never have referred me to their company. I am really worried as I now have been 'DECLINED' car insurance and will have to claim this each year even though it was a mistake.
Does anyone have any advice

There are many occupations that are commonly declined risks , eg professional sportspeople, TV presenters, the unemployed.

You would not have to declare this as a cancellation as it is clearly the insurer's error. Ask them for an explanation in writing to confirm this.
  • Thank-you for your reply. Does a cancellation still count as a decline if I was filling in a form? If it does I am guessing it will seriously affect my quotes for insurance.
