Transfer of existing Domain Name

I currently have a website on my own domain name hosted by Madasafish. I have my talk and broadband with them also.
Their customer service has always been awful, but recently has gone even further downhill.
i thought it would be a simple matter of transferring the whole lot to someone else, but have found it is not that easy.
Talk Talk were supposed to be doing it but after waiting for two months for them to do so I've given up.
What is the best option and how do I go about it?
I can't simply keep it hosted by Madasafish as you can only update the site when connected to the internet through them.
Help please!!!

Use a web hosting company instead of your existing or new ISP - far easier0
-
How do I do that though? And how do I find the best?
sorry to be such a dimwit, but my brother who has always handled this side of things has gone tolive in New zealand so I'm a bit stuck.:A Sealed Pot Challenge - number 263 :A0 -
Is it a big website? Is it just static HTML or does it use databases or anything fancy?0

It does nothing complicated and is around 23MB. Presumably I go to someone like 3iX, but I don't understand the tranfer process. The domain is regstered to me with Nominet, and I know I pay Madasafish to transfer the name away, but do I have to pay the new provider , or just pay them for the hosting package?:A Sealed Pot Challenge - number 263 :A0

I have just been told after spending an hour going through their registration process, which gives the option for existing .co.uk domains to be tranferred that actually 3iX don't support the transfer of .co.uk domains 'any more' although it is listed as an option on their website. Aaargh! Does anyone please know a cost effective reliable hosting service?:A Sealed Pot Challenge - number 263 :A0

When i finally get access to my website hosted by Madasafish I too Im moving, The best place i have found it a company called Webhostingbuzz.com. I considering using them as i can host more than one domain with them.
Its a fraction more, massive webspace and all the bits and bobs you need to host a site ( MAAF webspace do not support PHP unreal in this day and age).
Have you paid them the £25. they ask for? maybe thats why they havent done anything.0 -
It was 3iX that say they can't support the transfer, although if you go through their automated process they think they can! Madasafish will only transfer to another registrar registered with Nominet, which 3iX aren't. I'll give Webhostingbuzz.com a look

My website is very basic - loads of pages, but no flash. However we would like a guestbook, which Madasafish could never support. Is this something I should be asking about - so far I've just been checking the webspace. and usage?:A Sealed Pot Challenge - number 263 :A0 -
Sorted! I have signed up with Fasthosts, who aren't the absolute cheapest but have a UK call centre, and in an hour had the domain switched, my related e-mails switched and set up, the website back up, and I never have to talk to Madasafish again, having also switched broadband, or at least started the switch over. The disruption to my site was less than half an hour, which is shorter than Madasafish do every week! Many thanks for all the advice on and off the boards.
Cheers.:D:A Sealed Pot Challenge - number 263 :A0 -
the MAAF platform is on the verge of being transferred to plusnet so you woulda had the full works php etc!
If you haven't been keeping up to do date with tech news fasthosts have been taking a bit of a hammering lately for a data theft and revealed that passwords were not being encrypted. Just something to remember! Good luck with fasthosts! I've never been a fan but I know some people who don't have a problem with them!0 -
I can only say I am thrilled to be away from Madasafish. We have been with them for over 10 years (since they were Freenetname) and they have the most appalling customer service and technical support I have ever come across.
Hopefully Fasthosts will work out - I know a couple of people with them who haven't had any problems, and the service I got yesterday was spot on.
Presumably there isn't anything I can do about the data theft problems from my end?:A Sealed Pot Challenge - number 263 :A0
