Hi guys,
Got myself an 8GB Pen Drive. Seems good and okay. So what I did was to move all my files and folders from my 256MB Pen Drive to my New 8GB Pen Drive. All seems well. But what I have noticed is that when I create new Folders on the New Pen Drive and put files in them, it saves it. But when I now take off the Pen Drive and later put it back in to the same pc or another pc. The New Folder will still be there but all the NEWLY placed file in these folders have all vanishied. The folder is still there but no content any more. This is really strange as I can not determine why this is happening. This has happened all the time I made a new Folder and put content in them. The content I put in these folders are PDF docs, Word Docs and some Programmes too.
I looked at the filling systerm of all the other smaller Pen Drive I have, I can see that they are all in FAT format but this very NEW 8GB pen DRIVE I have is FAT32 and I woundered if I need to change this to FAT only format as this my be where the problem is, but then again it may not be the PROBLEM either. I did not format this new drive either before I started useing it but I have never had to format any of my smaller pen drive in the past either. I really need some help here people as I can not loose this BIG STORAGE device I have just bought from EBAY though and from the FAR EAST too!!
Thanks alot all!!

Are you sure you are saving the docs in the folders and not the root of the drive? It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

My experience of unbranded "far east" pen drives is simply you get what you pay for and they tend to be rubbish. They're fundamentally poorly made (random corruption, transfer problems etc) and if you're unhappy with it your only option in my opinion is to return it. You can try reformatting it (Fat16 or FAT32, FAT32 should be ideal though and may not even be possible to format as FAT16) and see if it makes a difference but I suspect it won't."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

This is exacltly my experience with a 2Gb drive off ebay.
It works fine untill about 1GB - then I start getting empty folders that were OK before. It drove me mad for a while.0 -
There have been quite a lot of reports of pendrives and memory sticks being sold from the Far East as two or four times their actual size, and then formatted in a "trick" way to appear to be much larger.
Garetha's seems to fit that pattern - the folder info is stored at the start of the drive - once it is filled beyond 1Gb (it's actual size) the folders start pointing to files that are in memory that doesn't exist!0
