Mis-sold (kind of) a TV - please help

Hello,
I bought a TV from PC World on Wednesday last week. It is a very popular TV, the Samsung 42 inch, and it has been difficult finding it in stock, anywhere. All the major retailers said they couldn't get it in for 2 weeks, etc.
The manager at PC World told me that he would have no problem getting one in. He said they would have a delivery of over 120 on Saturday and that we could collect it, at the latest, this Thursday. I made it very clear that everywhere else was out of stock and that they couldn't get it in for two weeks but, he assured me it wouldn't be a problem.
They phoned me yesterday to say that they had only had 8 delivered on Saturday and that they were promised to other customers. The person I spoke to said he hadn't heard of any deliveries for 120 but that the manager was going to see where else he could source one from, today (Monday).
My question is - where do I stand if he can't get me a TV for when he promised it? I feel like the TV has been mis-sold. If I had known that he couldn't get one in, I would have just ordered it with Comets and waited for home delivery. The only problem is, I can't cancel the order as all of the other retailers have put their prices up by £100 as the TV is in such high demand.
I would be grateful if anyone could give me some insight on where I stand. Can I push for compensation or do I have any other legal-type standing?
Thanks.

Not being funny, and going totally of subject, but looking at your DFW details in your footer you are more than £14,000 in debt, how on earth can you afford an £800 42 inch TV

I wish I lived in you world - get real, clear your debts and then worry about TV's!!
As for Compensation - for what exactly? The world is really going mad with all this crazy compensation culture......AHHHHHHHH it drives me mad:mad:
Sorry, rant over0 -
Very fair point IMO! I really hope it was not on credit!!Not being funny, nad going totally of subject, but looking at your DFW details in your footer, how on earth can you afford a 42 inch TV?
Without meaning to be an interfering busy-body, probably would be better off cancelling the order whilst still possible and chucking that money at the debts instead ..just an idea
Is a tv that size really necessary to you and do you really need it yesterday? I get the "wants" from time to time...just have to keep them in check!!

Doh, I pressed the Thank You button instead of 'Quote'. I would have a word with that Manager and ask for a discount since he misled you and the price has gone up since. But the other guys have a point.0 -
Legally, the retailer has no obligation towards you.
As the item is in such high demand, and PC World is cheaper than elsewhere (you say that the price has gone up by £100 everywhere else), I don't see why they would offer you an additional discount.Gone ... or have I?0 -

compensation for what ????moonrakerz wrote: »That's why he is after compensation !!! £££$$$£££
what do you think you are entitled to compensation for?If You See Someone Without A Smile......Give Them One Of Yours0 -
You haven't actually bought the TV yet, have you? So there is no case of 'mis-sellling' to answer. 2 weeks doesn,t seem long to wait for a TV to come into stock at another retailer."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I would be pretty annoyed if I'd been promised delivery as per the OP and then find out I'd been lied to (I believe the sales guy was promising whatever he needed to to make the sale.) Even if you'd made delivery by a certain date a condition of sale I doubt you'd get any compensation. I'd keep your fingers crossed that you'll get the TV at all for that price, or take it as a sign and keep the money!0

My insurance has paid for the TV - not me.
The majority of the £14k debt I am in is the 'clever' work of an abusive ex who took me for everything I was worth - not that it's anyone's business. I thought this was a website for helping each other out, not slating people.
Rant over
To those of you who have posted useful comments - thanks. I am not necessarily looking for compensation, I was just trying to find out where I stand. I just didn't appreciate being promised something that never existed in the first place. They made me pay for the TV then and there so yes, I have already bought it.Official DFW Member 716 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0
