heheh I spent more on matchpots in our living room than I did on the actual paint!

Can't argue with that but I find plain white walls a bit harsh and cold which is why we are considering a pale yellow.

I like the look of Crown's sunrise in the brochure but have a feeling that it may come out a lot darker in real life. Probably looking at something more like Golden Hue or even Whisper of Sunrise.

Don't usually go for match pots but on this one occaision, I am tempted.

as long as your house is warm, how can the colour of the walls make you feel cold - never understood that one...

We've just painted out place white and looks lovely with the right accessories...

heheh we only had that conversation this weekend. My Mum has got a thing about rooms looking cold. I think it stems from her bad circulation! I was gobsmacked though when she didn't comment on my new duckegg bedroom - I think she's learned to keep it stumm!

I don't think we are talking physically feeling cold. More sort of harsh versus cosy. A bit like hospitals choosing that funny green colour as it is supposed to be calming?!

OH says that he likes carpets in all the rooms as it makes them cosy. Me I'd go for some laminate in certain rooms for sheer easy cleaning. Interestingly, OH thought that the stripped boards in my friends new 100yr old terrace were OK.

  • we have this in white on our living room walls. I am very pleased with the brightness of it. We painted over textured paper.

Just tested it to see how well it cleans. There was a grotty bit behind the chair where I lean one of the dog's beds in the day...and it WAS grotty  ... tried cleaning the wall there with a damp towel...no detergent and it came off fine ( why didn't I do this before???) There is another mark where something was splashed ( something orange, bolognese perhaps?) and that did not come off...BUT I did not scrub and this was just water.

So my conclusion would be...cleans okay if we are talking a bit of grubbiness, fingerprints etc...but possibly not for a food stain.

and before you wonder, we do not have food fights, but you know bolognese, gets everywhere LOLOL.

    HTH

Well I finished glossing my doors last night, now all that remains is for Mr Phirefly to change the handles and lightswitches and we'll be all ready for the new carpet tomorrow. Made any decisions yet, full-time-mum?

I don't think we will be going with the Light&Space.

I ordered some crown paint samples from their website - absolutely brilliant, they are the actual emulsion painted onto cardboard squares - we are looking at 'Sunrise' but I'm not sure whether it will be too much. As we are talking hallway, we have quite a narrow area to be dealing with. Will let you know how it goes!

  • I did my dark hallway in Lunar Falls Light & Space and was exceptionally pleased with the results.

First of all I spent a fair amount of time improving the walls as it had been done at one time with a textured paint finish. With a combination of sanding, polyfilla and Polycell Base Coat Complete I got this process done to a point where I was happy. It did take quite a while, but once you have it done, it is there for the next time. I was very happy with the end result and felt that the Light & Shade finish did not reveal imperfections more than any other paint would.

The Polycell base coat complete product is supposed to cover small cracks etc. and it did that ok as well as covering a stain on the ceiling from a previous leak. This product it is also supposed to cover strong colours (I did not find that at all good for that purpose on another paint job). It is not a miracle product but it probably helps a bit.

I now find the hallway is just so much brighter than it was so I have also used various other Light and Shade paints in two other rooms I have decorated. One was with Morning Light (a creamy white) and one with Desert Winds (also a cream white). In my view the "Light & Space" effect with these two colours is less noticeable, but I suppose that this is because they are almost white anyhow.

I hate dark rooms and to me if there is any chance of increasing the light in the room for the relatively small difference in the price of a tin of paint, I am going to take that chance. I normally use a cheaper base coat (normally a standard white) so that I am not using the expensive paint for more coats than needed.:j

Glad your happy with it :D, but me personally think there is no difference in buying say for example morning light in the ordinary matt, rather than the light and space.
Infact I used morning light, just the usual matt one a few months ago for a client, it was thier dining room, looked lovely and bright, I daresay if you used the usual matt one, would you notice any difference:confused:
