Warning: Mastercard data compromised

It seems Mastercard data has been compromised:
Friday last week I was contacted by M&S Money, telling me that my credit card details had been compromised and asking me whether or not I recognised a transaction on my card from Consumer Credit Solutions (CCS).
Since I am no longer using my &MORE card for any purchases but only keep it open until my 0% interest offer runs out, I knew immediately that any transaction would be fraudulent. I was glad that M&S had spotted this, but at the same time I started to wonder how they knew immediately that "my card details had been compromised".
After spending lots of time on hold-music and inane conversations with an offshore call centre, I was eventually called back by the security department of M&S. They told me that Mastercard had informed them that the data of over 200 of their customers had been compromised and that the offending transactions came from Consumer Credit Solutions (CCS).
So...still no clearer on how my card details were compromised when I have not used it for months, but it would seem others could be in danger so be warned!
