I've got 3G on my phone but..............

I've got 3G on my SE K850i phone and because I don't know anything about it, I asked elsewhere and got this reply:-

There I'm afraid I can't help you. Log on to the web site of your phone service provider and from there you should be able to find a price table. My guess is that as you can already connect to a 3G network your only additional cost will be if you want to exceed your current download limit, whatever that is.

That didn't help me one bit, so I looked at the home page of my landline/broadband provider, TT and still couldn't see anything to help me. So maybe someone else could throw some light on the subject.

I had told myself I wouldn't enter the world of accessing the net on my phone because a) didn't think it would be necessary, b) didn't want extra cost.

Nevertheless, I still wouldn't mind learning what this is all about.

You need to go to your mobile providers website, to find out the ridiculous prices that they will charge you to surf on your mobile! 3G is mobile technology!

Using a 3g service is not handled by your landline/broadband provider, as espresso said it is dealt with by your mobile service provider.

For general information on 3g found a couple of links:

What are you trying to do? Do you want prices? Or how to connect?

Because I saw the 3G symbol on my phone, I asked what it was, and was told I'd be able to access the net. I then misunderstood and thought I should be reading the TT site, when clearly it was the vodafone site. So half the question has been answered, in that I know what it's for, I assume the next part will be that it's too expensive to access, so for me, the 3G is wasted.

3g is just a faster version of wap/gprs that is fast enough to stream audio and video (hence the video call option on your phone).
surfing can be expensive, on voda, it's £1 for the day or with the add-on's £7.50 a month.
  • 3G is novelty for most mobile users at the moment. It will stay that way for a while I imagine. Too expensive.

I use mine to check 3's mobile web site as its free to browse and I can check my current month's allowance (how many minutes/texts left).
It's worth noting though that the cost depends on your contract-my last 3 contract included some free browsing, my current one doesn't-except for 3's own site.

Well at least I know now. Wasn't life that much simpler when all we had to do is look for four large old pennies and a red box!.
