Advice to sell my house (I have cats!)
Im having my house valued on Friday and I was hoping for a little advice.
We have two kittens who are still living in the house as they are not allowed to go outside just yet. What is the best thing to do with them when people are viewing the house? Is it best to remove their litter tray (which is all enclosed) and food etc when people come round? What do you do with pets?
Also, do you know how long it might take for the EA to vlaue the house?
Thanks! :T

I hide all evidence of animals when people view. Litter tray is cleaned away, food cleaned away, windows opened, air freshener and cats evicted. They have a habit of sitting right outside the door and racing in as soon as you take people into the garden though.
Your EA will spend up to about an hour with you I guess. Most of it talking.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Me too.
We viewed a house last week with a litter tray and old cat food in the kitchen. I have cats and dogs so are used to pets. Even so, it did put us off a bit. When you are looking for somewhere to live it needs to be warm and comfortable and smell nice!
Silly I know, but it does make a difference.0 -
Thanks for the advise! Ok, i'll get rid of the food and tray...but what about the cats?! As they can't go outside im not sure where to put them?!!:beer:0

I would put them in one of those cat carrier box things. Then they could be put in a shed or something.0

I'd leave the cats in and hope they hide  Not much you can do if they're tiny. At least they're cute

Hello,
I have a cat, and we both work full time so unfortunally we have been leaving his food out. I dont think it is far at all on my cat, he hasnt asked to move.
My theory is. if someone is seriously looking to buy my house, they wont be put off. We dont have carpets, and I make sure any fluff is hovered up (Nightmare been hovering twice a day!). I'd say put the litter tray away for viewing only, and maybe keep the kittens in one room. I think locking animals out is a step to far, unless u have a big agressive dog who like ppl's bums!0 -
I've just sold my house, completed on Friday & have a cat. There was no way I was going to chuck him out before viewers arrived as this is his home. But what I did do when viewers arrived was to say to them I had a cat & if they preferred I'd put him in the garden while they looked around.
Not one person objected to his lordship & all viewers said they actually like cats so I was very lucky there.
I didn't remove the litter tray from it's place in the cupboard under the stairs but I did ensure it was clean & fresh smelling. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
You could always mention that you help the local Cats protection league for your area, and are looking after these until they are ready to leave for their new owners. Could come across to any potential buyers that you are the caring person, and if you care for animals, you probably care for your home too.
We have a dog and cat, and will be putting on the market in March (house not pets!), for the cat he just sits on his bed all the time, so may leave him in, or he doesn't mind being chucked out. As for the dog, we have a baby gate system so I will be able to move him around as the buyers view the house. As others have said, remove food trays or at least they are clean and put away.Financial Aims for 2012:
