Vista problems

Just got a laptop with Vista. I know a lot of people just cant get on with it and have reverted back to XP. I'm tempted to do the same but a part of me wants to master it. is there any info I can download ( free of course) that will explain Vista to me? I want something along the lines of "Vista for idiots"
Also, I'm not that chuffed with the touchpad mouse. It was OK but now its doing what it wants to do, not what I want it to do. Does it need cleaning or something? Again, I know I can connect an ordinary mouse, but that defeats the object of a laptop doesn't it?

Click the start orb and choose help and support - Vistas support system is very comprehensive.

You can only downgrade to XP for free if you have Vista Business or Ultimate, otherwise you need to buy XP.

What do you find difficult about Vista? It's not that differnet to XP really, just looks nicer. There are books on the subject but I'd just use it and see how you get on. For any specific problems you cna ask here or use google.

There's a very full review of Vista here that may help, lots of other info on that site as well.

You're not resting you hand on the touchpad when typing ar eyou? Personally I always disable them and use the 'nipple' thing in the middle of the keyboard. If you're not touching it I'd speak to the manufacturer.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Have a look here. You may need to change the touchpad settings e.g. switch off tapping.

    Loads of help there

Also KityKat, are you sure your not trying to move the pointer with
your finger nail, you need to use the full pad of the finger tip
  • I'd upgrade to XP personally, I have tried Vista but found it fell far below what I expected from the newest version of a long established OS should be.

Nope, I use a laptop at work and plug in a normal keyboard and mouse, much easier in normal use.

I'd agree with Bill and rob, keep going with Vista.

I found that I soon got the hang of it and it's easy enough to find what you need.

Amazon have a couple of "Vista for Dummies" options for less than £15
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
