Villa + Pool in Portugal

We are looking to go away with friends for one week in August. There will be 4 adults and 3 children (4,5 & 8).
We went to Lanzarote in 2004 in a private villa and pool and enjoyed the freedom it gave us. This year we would like to try Portugal.
We dont want to hire a car, so need somewhere with easy access to beaches/shops/restaurants.
I have looked on a couple of websites (villaplus & jamesvillas) - can anyone recommend any other websites?
I know it will be quite expensive due to the time of year, but Villa Plus was working out at £4500 total!
Any tips or recommendations for resorts will be greatly apprecaited as we have never been to Portugal before.

3 apartments all in one big house with its own pool which will be nice for sharing but still give each family privacy too
only thing is its a little way out of albeferia and the old town so you would need a car or cabs
however the apartments are lovely HTH

Thanks for your replies.
I kee getting waylaid by the expensive websites with the kind of villas that require a WAGS lifestyle!
Am hoping to find something by the weekend. If its still working out as too expensive we might have to go back down the package holiday route.
