I'm running Vista and have a probelm with MP - it won't play sounds correctly in some instances. MP3's won't play - just a funny thumping noise. Some video is ok, some not.
I did install some codecs, but have since removed them. I have Divx installed, but that should make any difference.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks.

personally I'd download VLC it's astand alone media player that in my experience plays everything without problems. It seems to have all the codecs you may need built in.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Thanks - I'll give that a try. I would also like to resolve this problem...0

I would (personally) uninstall DivX restart PC-then install a fresh copy of WMP11 over the top http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/mediaplayer/default.mspx
And then get VLC or my fave k-lite media codec pack http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
Also you may want to try out winamp as a media player for mp3's as its much better imho. http://www.winamp.com/0 -
Probably me... but I can't find the download for Vista. XP no problem, but not Vista!
In fact I've tried again - it just goes to XP version 11 all the time.0 -
Odd If I go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/mediaplayer/default.mspx I come to WMP for Vista no probs.0

I get that page no problem, but when it actually comes to download, I can't see media player for Vista - just XP. I wondering if that's the version I should download?0

Download here http://www.filehippo.com/download_windows_media_player/ click on technical and it says for Vista aswell.0

Resolved it... I tried to download, but it failed, saying that I had a more up to date version.
I then tried playing an MP3 online:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/domorewith/sursoshowcase.aspx
Sure enough, it played fine. So now I'm thinking WMP must be fine. I checked the options etc and all seemed ok. Anyway, the SRS WOW Effects were turned on. I turned them off and bingo - sorted. How did they get turned on? That bit is the mystery... Maybe the daughter.
Thanks for your help.0
