How Can You Tell How Much Is Being Downloaded?

Hi all..
Looking for some quick advice on my internet. I have BT broadband which comes with 5gb usage allowance.
In the house my mum and dad both have laptops which they use for internet. My mum plays online bingo (don't ask!) and my dad just checks emails, sometimes things like silly video clips or pictures his mates send him. I just use the internet for this forum and some other sites, shopping sites etc. Very occasionally download a song.
I keep getting emails saying we are going over the 5gb limit, this month it was something like 8.75gb or thereabouts?
Is this because there are 3 computers linked up to the wireless? I've checked with everyone in the house and they definetely don't download any programs or anything.
Thanks

Something like online bingo probably uses constant streaming and so will use a lot of your usage because of this. This is probably the answer to your question. Are BT charging you for going over?0
-
Oh I see I didn't realise that, I thought it was only if you specifically downloaded something and 'saved' it to your computer.
And yes, they are charging, I think they said 30p per extra gb. Considering I pay something like £25 for the broadband they are having a laugh!0 -
you should think about changing internet provider !!! £25 for capped internet with emails asking you to pay more ......!!!! There are such better deals elsewhereI have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

I definetely am thinking of changing...although to be fair the service from BT has been great so far. I work part time for o2 and can get broadband unlimited for £5 through them so going to phone BT and ask them how long I've got to go on this contract. Was really just curious to see what was being downloaded without our knowledge really!

£25 for a 5GB cap?
BT's unlimited option is less than that!0 -
I'm sure I'm on the 12 month one where it's £17.99 for the first 3 months then £24.99 afterwards. I'm hoping so because I'm sure I'm nearly at the end of my 12 months!0

I hammer the living hell out of my broadband and I'm lucky to touch 7GB and that's with 3 people using it. I'm really surprised you're going over 5GB, sohurt. It might be worth checking that nobody is freeloading off your wifi.0

your router stat page may have the answer to ho much you are downloading, providing it does not reset itself.
Also software like dumeter will tell you how much has been downloaded. )2 recently bought BE. Aparently they provide similar service and I cant fault BE!GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

Me too, I download the odd "free" piece of software and music, perv over Youtube videos and Mrs Advent uses the online bingo sites but we have never gone over the limit.
Methinks a neighbour is nicking your internet by the bucketload.0
