Ok,
*wanders in techie board nervously*
I use the computer daily but have VERY basic knowledge
I've discovered a website that has been visited on my pc & was wondering if there was a way I could find out when it was last visited.
Unfortunately, I clicked on the link & opened the page so its already in todays history & I was wondering if there was any way I can find out if it was visited before then. By visiting the site today I think I may have 'scuppered' any possible chance of finding out when t was visited before today?
I found it by typing www.a then www.b etc in the address box so I could see what had been visited recently but haven't done it for a couple of weeks.
Someone has been using my pc over the past 2 days and I was presuming it was them but unfortunately dont want to ask them because its scared me a little.
And no, its not !!!!!! - cos that wouldn't have bothered me as much as this
*Stupid question alert over* - see I know Martin says there is no such thing as a stupid question but me thinks he's wrong on this
And if anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Thank you

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

the history should go back over the last week at least possibly before, it is worth checking, the record is not deleted if you go on to the site the next day
Also you can check the cookie folder to see if a cookie is there from the site and when it was created - my comp- c: drive - docs & settings - your user folder - cookiesNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
yhere is usually a trail of cookies left on the pc in the form of your_logon_name@the_site_you_have_visited.txt left on your pcGOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0

Unfortunately I deleted the history on Friday
I didn't know about the cookie check
And its not there - I've just trawled through them. There seems to be a gap when I know for sure someone was on the pc. Is it possible that they can delete certain cookies?
Oh you dont know how much I wished I knew about cookies before today
But better late than never I suppose

If you went there via a link and you did not surf for the first hit on this site who did and who else knows your password. Set up a user account with a password and it won't happen again.
You can also block that site if you wnated to.
Ask the web site admin. staff via an e-mail, they will keep logs Iam sure also the ISP has logs but they might not let you have them.0 -

It was either my children - very doubtful as its not something that would interest them at all or the person who used my pc over the weekend. If it was the person who used my pc over the weekend then it just confuses and concerns me slightly.
I'm going to ask my girls if they did visit the site tomorrow when they are awake but I am confident it wasn't them.
The person who used my pc wont be using my pc again so I'm not too worried about blocking it - its nothing that is 'wrong' in that sense. I'm not bothered enough to contact the web site admin - I just thought if there was a way of finding out when the site was visited it would make it easier to talk to the person about itI doubt that makes too much sense to you but it does to me - i know what i mean - honest!!

I know kids can do it.
And my girls are 15 & 13 so they are probably more computer literate than me!
I just know its very unlikely they would have looked at this site.
I'm glad you like my signature - its really worth a go

Check if the site has been added to the list of Favorites, if so there will a shortcut for it in ...
C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Favorites
Right click on the shortcut and select the General tab, there will be the time and date the shortcut was created.0 -
Because you said that by clicking on the address you thought you’d overwritten all record of the previous visit to the site, I assume that just one page from this website came up in the list. If it was just one page, it could have been by chance. Ending up at a page and meaning to end up at a page are not the same thing.
- Someone called northernyuppie could pop up and say, “have you seen the one-girl-two-cups website?” Then, all sorts of people would be seeing things they didn’t think they’d want to see.
- You could click on a link that isn’t what it says it is, such as the one for this Evil Depravity.
- You could foolishly click on a link in some spam.
- A legitimate website could get hijacked. This can be due to tainted third-party banner ads. For an example of this, see the news article on The Register website called Perl.com sends visitors to !!!!!! link farm. (That one really does go where I say it does.)

From your posts, I’m guessing you use Internet Explorer 6.
(I don’t use Internet Explorer myself, so there may be omissions in the above.)
