Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone can help??
I am looking at taking my family on a budget holiday in August (after a blow out to Florida recently) and quite fancy France.
I would love to find somwhere busy but unspoilt, big flea and food markets and lots to see and do for children (not Paris or Disney).
I have 2 daughters aged 15 and 9 so quite awkward ages as they need to be kept busy and interested, myself and my husband!
Can anyone point me in the right direction??
Thanks
Jo

Bit of a cliché but Provence sounds like it might suit your needs....
Great markets especially at St Remy De Provence.
Roussillon - the French Colorado with ochre, red, orange sands
Isle sur la Sorgue - lots of little rivers and water wheels, river festivals with people in long canoe type things. Famous for its antique/brocante market every August (need to check dates)
Beautiful villages such as Gordes (great market too)
Fontaine de Vaucluse/Pernes les Fontaines( river source/ paper mill) and a nearby treetop assault course/ canoeing/ kayaking
Avignon with its Palais des Papes, Pont and beautiful gardens, great shopping etc.
Just need a house/ hotel/ campsite with a pool or near a river or lake. Beautiful scenery, gorges and fields of lavendar and great weather!
One of the best holidays we have ever had!!0 -
We used to go to a camping/caravan site called Camping Le Ruisseau (or something like that!) just outside Bidart, near Biarritz. We went there for about 6 years in a row and always found something to do (kids ranged from 4 to 17). I remember Dad taking us up the fenicular railway where you stood on one side of a post at the top and you were in France, and the other side you were in Spain.
We always went at the start of the summer and there were loads of village fetes on, Basque dancing to watch etc.
The campsite iteslf has static caravans from loads of companies such as Keycamp, although you will find some small independent companies aswell who are cheaper if you shop around. If I remember correctly it has a bar, pool room with air hockey etc, reception, shop, one large outdoor pool with slides and and in door pool that the top can be opened on aswell.
We had great times there and are considered going back either next year or year after with my sisters taking their kids!
Will go and hunt out a link to the site....."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

The area of the "wee pool" as we always called it has changed a fair bit but the rest looks the same!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!
