Magnacleanse and Homecare

So we have had BG homecare for a few years now, they recently came round to fix a faulty boiler.

They have decided that we have a lot of Magnaite in our system, and we need a powerflush and a Magnaclean unit fitting. Funny enough this is not covered by our contract and so they have left us with a quote for £695! Also if we don't do this we will not be covered for any further CH work.

I feel like I am being blackmailed on trumped-up charges.

* Why after servicing our system for years did they not detect this before?
* Surely this should be covered, sounds like they are getting off on a technicality here?

I am really wondering about the wisdom of keeping this contract going and getting an independant.
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy

    I think the answers are:
    1. It's not covered by the service, and
    2. It's wear and tear
£695 is about right for a BG figure for the work suggested. I'd guess (and it's a total guess cos I don't do it) that you could get a powerflush and magnaclean for about £450-£500. (BG must be on a big discount buying Magnacleans ;))

  • Hi

They are drumming up business, they also have you by the proverbials.

Get further quotes for the flush. You might actually get some benefit from it (I can't tell from here though) The Magnaclean will be about £100 unless you want to go to Fleabay.

I had BG in today for our boilers annual service. I've also had the Homecare plan for several years. He told me it probably needed a powerflush and it would cost about £600. He says they're doing a special deal just now and we'd get the magnaclean included in the price. I had no idea a powerflush would be so expensive.

£500 for a Magnaclean + powerflush, in Northwest.
  • This is all complete nonsense. You may need the service or may not - BG will use any excuse to pretend you need one. They pretended we needed it but it wasn't true.

Most plumbers will do the job far cheaper than BG anyway - don't be held hostage.
