new leather sofa has gone lumpy

hi, if this is in the wrong place then please move for me.
right, well i bought a 3 seat and 2 seat cream leather sofa from dfs and had it delivered about 6 weeks ago. the sofa dont really get used, maybe 4-5 hours at night, if that, anyway on two of the sofa seats this huge lump has devloped in the middle of the seat. i am very slim so doubt it may be my weight that has caused these lumps and dont lounge on the sofa etc. so why are these lumps appearing and so soon? has anybody had similar experiences and is there anything i can do. ie am i entitled to a replacement or something because surey this shouldnt be happening to a brand new sofa. i didnt get the optional insurance but i think it must be under some kind of gurantee.
any advice would be much appericated.
thank you in advance
leighanne

  • If it is a cushion take it out of it's cover, give it a good hiding & put it back in, that should sort it.
  • hey :) .... i had a sofa delivered from DFS about 7 weeks ago, i called them to complain about some minor damage that the delivery guys had done, they sent out a "sevice manager" to view the sofa and fixed the damage with no problems.

    Give them a call tomorrow.

    just noticed

I was told when i purchased the sofa, to beat it daily to keep the sofa in good shape.

  • Hello OP, I did have a problem with DFS regarding my leather suite, which was bought over 14 months ago, Will try and it short and too the point.
About 8 months ago noticed that the three seater and two seater were two different shades, colours and the three seater cushions were a lot less firmer than the two seater, so my thinking is i have got two different suites and both were used about the same amount, and that two young kids.
PHoned DFS and explained to them the issue with the suite and they said"we will send our area manager round". Area manager came round, give us the old, or it is the leathers offered to put some sort of leather stuff on it to bring it up to same shade has the other one. Was having non of it, so was advised to get a professional leather upholsterer to look at the suite. He came out checked it and said in his professional opinion we have two different suites. Thank-you (£25 quid well spent).
Informed DFS who at this time were quite forth coming in our complaint, and also did advise them that Trading Standards had also been informed. Sent the report away within 3 days had recieved a phone call from the Head Guy at DFS that he would like to come amd see the suite for himself.
Head Guy came and seen and said " we have two different suites, sorry for all the hassle am going to give the area manager a kick up the !!!! and we will recieving a new suite in 6 weeks ".
Everything fine know with the new suite all moneys have been reimbursed and am happy with the outcome. All I can say is stick to your guns, dont take no !!!!!! from them, if you r not happy with your goods then the law is on your side to ask for a refund, replacement or even to cancel the agreement.

Hope this is of some help.
  • Sorry for my grammer and spelling in places, but hope you got the jist of the post.
  • thanks for the help. i did try to plump up the cushions funkypumpkin but the seats are attached to the sofa if you undersatnd what i mean lol.
and to GIZAJOB thanks for the advice i think i will give them a call when i get the chance because i dont expect to pay £1500 ofmy very hard earned money on a sofa thats basically reuined now, s all you can see is a huge lump in the sofa which alot of ppl have commented on. once again hanks for your advie will call them asap.

We bought a leather suit in Nov 2004 consisting of one chair, 2 seater sofa and 3 seater sofa. Cost >£1500 + a now seemingly worthless "5 yr guarantee" which apparently only covers stains... making a total >£1700.

We bought it on their 4yrs/first year int free offer.

Over a year ago we complained to them that the coating was becoming dull, lifting and worn in places and was becoming tacky in some areas to the point that you or the cushions stuck to it.

They sent 2 guys out to look at it and they sprayed some colouring onto the worst offending areas saying that's all they could do. The colour did not actually match very well but the most annoying thing was the most senior blokes attitude who kept asking what we had spilt on it (nothing!!).

Now, another 12 months on and the suite is now almost 4 years old it is in a terrible condition despite being well looked after. My wife has recently complained to the Carlisle branch from which it was bought and a representative again visited. All they did was sympathize and their only offer was that if we wanted it re-covered DFS would pay half of the £1000 estimated cost of the work!! So, then we could have work done on this defective suite for £500!! THANKS !! (sic)

It now looks as if it is ready for the scrapheap even though we haven't yet finished paying for it. We do not feel that it has lasted as long as a quality suite of this value should. We have taken care of this suite and our home is well looked after - acknowledged by the rep.

DO WE HAVE ANY RIGHTS/HOW CAN WE APPROACH THIS PROBLEM WITH A VIEW TO REPLACEMENT?

I have seen many, many threads on forums relating to DFS complaints but could not quite find the answer/similar circumstances.
