Hard drive replaced by HP

 Have you had a similar experience? what did you do?

My computer was under warranty and was making intermittent noises (which I thought was the fan) and so I sent it to be fixed. HP replaced my hard drive and I lost everything, music, photo's, university work, all gone! I am left with a blank canvas.

HP says they are not responsible as I should have backed up my files etc. But had I known it was the HD and not the fan, I would have.Their customer service person was so rude to me.

  • Make sure you have that persons name, i hate it when they are rude, and make sure you make a proper complaint, either in writing or call up and do some research for complaints or head office, if i can find somthing i will post it. They should have told you as routine, when the system is collected they should say to the user to backup all data before they take the system away, if they didnt, you have a good case, make sure you keep names of everyone you speak too. if you are lucky, very lucky, they will have your old hard disk, and not have swiped it yet, but i they prob have, but its worth the fight.

Good Luck, update me. - Ill post any contact details if i find any....

Don't think you'll get very far - they do say if they you send the machine back it will be reset to the factory default settings and you should back up first. They normally roll back to the factory settings as one of the first things they do to check any problems aren't software related.

All I was told to do is to put the unit in a box, put the reference number on the box and make sure I get a receipt from the delivery man. I am calling again on Monday.

I read all the documentation relating to the computer and I am still to find where it says to back up first because it will be reset to factory settings.
