Singapore hotel recommendations wanted please

We are having a few days stopover in Singapore on our way to Sydney in October and will book our own hotels. Could anyone recommend a nice hotel there please? Somewhere close to tourist attractions but reasonably priced.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We stayed at the Pan Pacific last year. Really nice. If you book far enough in advance you can get a good deal.

    Well located.

We stayed at the Carlton, our room overlooked Raffles, close to Swissotel, Riverside a short walk, good transport links etc

Let us try to remember that this is a Money Saving website. :)

YMCA International House at 1 Orchard Road and just next to the Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station.

Half the price of the other suggestions, but most adequate.
  • Thanks all but especially thanks for the YMCA recommendation - that is the one I will book.

Hi, we are just back from Singapore, stayed in Park Royal on Beach Road great but not cheap as this was a once in a lifetime trip. At the end of Arab Street by a canal the locals sell stuff on the pavement and there was a card offering backpackers a bunk bed for $15 about £6 pp. Cheap eats in hawker halls. Keep your boarding pass stub if Singapore Air for free travel on town bus and other reductions.
    Have fun
