Working at that age in a proper job is impossible and actually illegal. from 13 upwards they need a work permit from the local education authority and then can only work certain hours.

That's what we've found - thing is my son doesn't go to school in the conventional sense (no assumptions please;)) so a) he's very independent minded b) he has lots of 'spare' time and c) I can't afford to fund him..................

Thanks for all the suggestions - we'll be doing plenty of research on these:T

  • To be honest with you,you should be thinking about your education at such age. When you will grow up then you will get to have your share of had earned cash. But if you are desperate for some money, the best bet is a paper round.

I had a morning and paperound when I was younger, don't let it impact your schooling though, thats more improtant in the long run.

In the summer maybe some gardening jobs.

My kids are home educated, but at 13 they still will need a work permit from the local authority, it's the law and anyone employing them, or employing children younger than 13, will get prosecuted along with the childs parents.

i dont think a child should have to worry about earning money at 12 i would think the only thing they could do at that age would be odd jobs for friends/family or the two of you could deliver a free paper together. Its not worth compromising safety for. Has your son got any ideas himself?

  • My 12 year old was buying sweets and selling them at school with a great turnover till the teachers caught him and he got them all confiscated and was told he wasnt allowed to do it.It wasnt interfering with his school time , he only sold at breaks and before school - still school weren't happy. I thought he was showing great initiative and was improving his maths working out his profits etc!!

lady chelle he will probably turn out to be a grea entreprenaur. Very rich people started out with simple ideas and progressed thats why i asked the op if her son has any ideas it should come from him really.

Probably got annoyed when the school's tuck shop profits went down the pan. ;)
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it
