Thats true Stimpo. I can see a Supplier booking a job in and cancelling if it gets fitted but otherwise why give up a perfectly good warrant to force the issue.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0

Stimpo - I know from experience that this is what usually happens, but from the OP's point of view, the cost of trying against the cost of the warrant is worth the gamble.
Once you have a date you are getting very close to the end of the line.0 -

I agree with you, it's true and some people prefer it that way.
However, the fact remains that future energy could then be charged at a higjer rate per Kwh so actually whilst you are forced to budget you are also forced to find more money to pay the bill if you cannot cut down on actual usage. You also lose out on promotional discounts from Suppliers which could help reduce your annual spend.
The same can be achieved by taking weekly readings, working out how much that equates to and putting some cash in the bank. You can then at least switch around getting the best discounts for the credit meter and DD's.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

If Scotcall are succesfull in obtaining the warrant then the only option you have is to pay the debt off in full or accept a prepayment meter on the warrant date. ScottishPower will accept nothing else. You will incurr charges for this as has been mentioned previously. Unfortunately due to the date only being a short time away you will be unable to get ScottishPower to arrange a normal job to fit a ppm (without charge) as presumming you do not live in their host area they will not have enough time to arrange such a visit with your local PES.
In accepting a ppm although you will incurr a charge, this will allow/make you pay for your ongoing usage and also reduce the debt at a set weekly rate. It has been said previously on this thread that PPMs are unafir and more expensive. THIS IS NOT TRUE. If you were to have the ppm, with ScottishPower you would actually pay less (per unit) that you are currently being charged. The mis conception of PPMs being more expensive normally comes from people who are paying off a debt and hence have a fixed charge to pay on top of their usage.
My recomendation would be to accept the situation, take the blow of the charge in your stride and by having the ppm installed this will allow you to focus on other debts. I must warn however if you do not accept the PPM and are not in the property on 080208 then ScottishPower/Scotcall may force access to your property and forcably install one or with draw your supply0 -

PP's in general are more expensive. You have less scope to shop around since not all are willing to offer a cheaper tariff.
In terms of being unfair, a meter is a meter however you open yourself up to other issues e.g. calibration faults so they are perceived badly.
Energywatch also percieve them this way clearly shown by why they are trying to get Ofgem to accept the direct corolation between fuel poverty and PP meters.
So are SP's PP tariffs cheaper than their credit ones? So, SP ask for less per Kwh considering the extra cost of PP maintenance?:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
thanks for all the comments - they did put the meters in, it was too late to arrange an appointment as they had already been granted the warrant.
they did not put any of the debt on the elec. meter but they stuck a charge of £15 pw :eek: on the gas, i did not realise it would be this amount untill i stuck the card in the meter, as i told them i would only be able to afford maxium of £5- so im trying to sort that out0 -
I had a wee look at the prices, the unit costs on Pre-pay are cheaper than paying quarterly. (Which I assume is the method of payment that has the OP with this balance on the account.)LBM:j -16/06/04
Debt at highest=£15,526:mad:
Now=£1500:T :T :T0
